Rear battery problem
 

I recently installed a new engine in my car (its a 240sx and I installed the SR20det into it if anyone cares) and I had to take my battery out and cut the battery tray for the intercooler piping. There is no space for a battery under the hood so I'm going to have to relocate it to the trunk. I need help on some details.

1. where should the fuse go? under the hood right near the alternator (under the hood) or near the batt (in the trunk)? I'm thinking near the alt.

2. How would this effect my options for a sound system? I'm going to be running 2 guage wiring all the way to the trunk, is this enough or should i go to 0 gauge? Will this cause voltage drops or put any extra strain on my charging system? will my lights dim because of this?

3. I'm going to be running an amp to power a sub at the back? should I add another fuse block for that line running to my amp? i'm guessing yes?

the sr20 is a strong engine. ive seen 700+hp come out of those.
a buddy of myne had a nicel deckked out one is his gtir.
about 400hp with a bigger turbo, fmic, bigger injectors, 600cc i think, and a bunch of other goodies... like 5 or 6 more.. i forget them though off the top of my head.

2. not highly, 0 guage would be prime though.

3. depends, is the run going to be too small for a fuse? lol
but again it is still a good idea if your not going to be running a huge spl monster of a car that you dont drive daily.

The SR is a wicked engine!! I would have to agree with Zinger, 0ga is the way to go!! the rest is fine by me:P And I say put a fuse in the engine bay and one in the trunk!! One can NEVER have enough fuses,

unless your running an all out spl car... then fuses are resistance you dont need :P

oh and if you say my last joke about fuses... they blow :P haha.

anyways, the way i figure it, if there is a short somewhere past the alternator fuse(like say in the cabin), the alternator fuse will blow before any current even gets to the battery fuse. Am i correct in thinking that the battery is downstream from the alt?

I have a redtop optima battery, is this okay for a system that would be running 400-500 watts rms?

should, but then again flow is actually from - to + so...
thats a tough call, i would put one both side just to be safe i think... would you rather replace a fuse or a burnt down car...

Keep in mind, if you blow your fuse going from your alternator to your bat, you will have the current flowing from your battery to your short then (direct link from + of bat to frame which is connected to the - terminal of your bat). Fuse on both sides is my vote for safety and not burning your car down. SR20DET are slow if they were on fire.

Thats true, the battery would continue to feed the short (and the SR would be slow). So fuse on both sides it is. now if i'm running 2 gauge wiring, how big of a fuse should I buy?

i would say anything from the 100-150 range should suffice. but be sure to keep some extras :P

the easiest thing to do would be to find the stock one... or did you rip it out for the new motor?

thats actually a really good idea. I took the engine from a donar car so I still have an extra fuse block. thanks.
