Do not sir say that the installers at FS are not MECP certified,I have all my papers and im finding it very hard to get into FS and Best Buy and im no hack at all.

I charge to little for the work i do on the side

also they are called crimp caps

Also did you ever think he put the cross-over in the door so you can't play with it and mess it up.Like alot of customers do(IE playing with the amp controls)

ok sooo heres the deal like i said before you get what you pay for. 200 to install everything that you had described is penuts! thats 4 -5 hr of work if done right. and our shop rate is 80 and hour FS idea of having the car audio section is so the customer stayes longer in there store. Not really there to give you a awsome system. Im not saying that remarkable people havent worked there ie. tim bally ( hope i spelled that right ) but the majority is in and out type work. Anyhoo i hope your experience has enlightend you on the whole situation.

that last line of cavy man14's post is the truth. I don't know how many customers come in with blown subs or overheating amps because they touched the gain controls

this thread is just another reason why not make threads about futureshop on this forum.

futureshop is 50/50. some are good and some are hurting, its just the luck of the draw.

i disagree with methodman0666, again i think it depends on the individual you are dealing with. Some people just want your money, and some people do their job and give you what you need. We don't want the customers hanging around for that amount of time because they either get in the way, or generally just become annoying and watch over your shoulder. Nobody likes that. Maybee your only familliar with a smaller store. We have all the things we need here to do a high quality install. We've got supplies, a woodshop, and everything we need in it, and if we don't have it there is a home depot next door and we'll go get it.

there is a way around the customers playing with the amps
we either use a small amout of hot melt and mark the settings inside so the customers know, also we make the sign the bottom of our invoice that basicly says if you play with levels you stand to loose your extended warenty
( most of our produscts have 2 or 3 year if installed by us and olny one year if not ) anyhoo

ok to reply to godzilla, i wasent trying to knock you but quite honestly the deal there is what i said the customer will spend more money if there getting a cd player installed ie cd's bla bla bla. And i must add that FS does give our shop quite a bit of repair bussiness lol . Think about this here in edmonton your getting a car start system installed and your told itll take 2.5 hr ok now im going to get a good chunk of my christmas shopping done .

The couple Best Buys around here are the same way. I'm not saying they're all like that, but I'd say, if you want it done really well, then take it to a privately owned shop. Like you said, most of the bigger companies are just trying to get you in and out fast. I've brought my vehicle to Best Buy, Circuit City, and Audio King (Which is now Ultimate Electronics). And each of them usually fouled something up. I think the problem is, some of the installers just don't know what they're doing and or just want to finish quick. Not all of them mind you, but a lot of them. The head installer may not even know that it's a problem with his guys unless you bring it to his attention.

There are a few locally owned audio shops around here. And each time I've had a problem with something that one of the above places installed, I brought it to them. They'd look at it for five minutes, take me back to the bay and show me what was done incorrectly. It's happened to me with all those places. I'd say it's just luck of the draw, but you shoudl watch out for those big companies.
