In theory, a good sturdy hard drive can take impacts up to 15 Gees while in operation... in practice, I dont think it works that way.

Thats too bad about the SACD... looks like its sony or no one.

If it's "Sony or no one", then it will be "no one". I wouldn't take a Sony product if it was free.

You're probably right about the hard drives. I contacted Eclipse tonight and they said that their USB featured head units will play tracks from external hard drives. Their response was:

"Thank you for contacting Eclipse

Yes will only read 3000 Files or Folders so if you want to hook a 60Gb hard drive to it you could but only going to read 3000 files or folders."

My next question to them will be to see if these 3000 files/folders can be WAV files or lossless formats such as FLAC or SHN. I'm getting excited!

Try contacting Westec here on the forum for this information as well. He is the CDN tech support rep for Eclipse here in the Great White North.

^ Yeah, I realized that.

I think it’s a bit late on the SACD player release tho. cause all the hype has vanished years ago. Now its ipod into 24bit Dac etc. But for ultimate SQ….. the SACD is still the way to go in home audio next to vinyl imo. :)

Couldn't agree more, but my Ariston/Rega/Linn combo won't fit in the new car.

there are lots of new SACDs coming out every week, so I wonder why there are so few players. I guess people who are satisfied with MP3s, Dolby D and DTS don't care about true high quality sound. Sad.

BTW, how's the Nak? I still have a 582Z and used to have the 600II "cheese wedge" deck.

Many people are lazy, or just dont have good enough equipment for it to matter.

Take for example, your average best buy bookshelf stereo.... It REALLY doesnt matter if you feed it SACD or burnt mp3s, its still not going to sound that impressive.

Yeah. Best Buy. :thumbsdow

The only items I ever buy from them are DVDs and games for my son's Wii and Gameboy.

I prefer Brack's, Whitby Audio and a few others.

It seems like Drivesoft requires a lot of hardware (mouse, keyboard)! I am looking for a single DIN, self-contained unit that will either include a hard drive that can handle lossless codecs, or one that can play files stored on a plugged in hard drive. Is there any info available on Drivesoft's new unit?

Bracks, Audio Excellence and Whitby Audio are high-end audio shops in Toronto that sell brands such as Mark Levinson, Krell, Audio Research, B&W, Arcam, Onkyo Integra, conrad-johnson, Audio Research, etc.

IMO, these brands' components blow away the very best from companies like Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, Yamaha and most of the other mass-marketed audio stuff that is sold at places like Future Shop, Best Buy et al. The only company that can probably be included in the "audiophile /videophile" and mass-marketed categories is Denon. I wish Denon made car stereos! Mark Levinson car stereos are available in the higher end Lexus cars and SUVs. They sound mighty nice!

Anyways......I'll check out Drivesoft a bit more. "Pimp My Ride" ? Never heard of it!

Thanks for the info!
