Recommendations
Hey everyone,
Long time lurker here. I'm looking to possibly upgrade an '01 Chevy Monte Carlo SS. I'm also in the US. I have this HU: Pioneer DEH-P4900iB CD receiver with MP3/WMA/AAC playback at Crutchfield.com And these subs & amp: Kicker CompVR 07CVR124 12'' subwoofer with dual 4-ohm voice coils at Crutchfield.com Profile HA1000 2-channel car amplifier 160 watts RMS x 2 at Crutchfield.com Now, to the fun part. I'm looking to make this a decent set up. I have a budget of around ~$200 USD. I'm just looking to upgrade so that I have clearer highs & overall better sound. Would this include swapping out the rear deck & front panel speakers? If you have any recommendations, please post them! Thanks, it's appreciated. |
If I were you, I would not look at buying rear deck speakers but saving and purchasing a decent set of components for the front matched to a solid amp for them.
You will likely want to save a little more cash. But that is just my opinion. |
So maybe a set of front door panel speakers, along with tweeters?

This sounds like what I might want. Based on the reviews, these components are more about the highs, not so much the low bass. I already have enough bass with the subs, so it seems like this is a good choice:

Whoops, sorry about that. I've found 2 sets of component speakers:
Polk Audio db5250 5-1/4'' component speaker system Certified for marine use at Crutchfield.com Polk Audio db6500 6-1/2'' component speaker system Certified for marine use at Crutchfield.com |
I wouldn't hesitate to use those speakers. But, as most people on here would say, try to find a dealer that carries them, and then give them a listen. Make sure you like the speakers before you spend a few hundred bucks on them.
And also, like others have said, Concentrate on your from speakers only. One last thing.. I've noticed in a few of my friends cars, they have component speakers in the back, they are WAY too directional, and screw up the soundstage horribly. |
Well from what I have read, putting speakers in the rear deck is almost pointless, because of the subs overpowering it.
If I were to get these speakers, I'd definately put them in the front door. |
