Clipping in its simple term, pretty much means pushing the amp to get more power from it than it was designed to put out, which it can't do, and it will clip sending out a signal that can basically damage the sub.

Although the Type-R sub is rated at 500W RMS and 1500W MAX, apparently it's a tough sub and underrated, so people have been able to put anywhere from 900 to 2100 watts into it according to posts I've followed on the subject.

I definitely wouldn't recommend going over the MAX wattage of 1500W with RMS power though unless it's a one time competition type thing you're doing.

The reason for the 750/900W thing is because you want the headroom so you can get all 750W into the sub getting the power you want, but not driving the amp to its overload point and creating potential clipping.

So you guys would recommend putting a higher RMS then the sub is rated at? Would it make that big of a difference going from a 600RMS amp to a 750RMS amp or so?

I can't find that RF 750S anywhere on the internet (eBay, etc), are there any other good suggestions for amps. I have to be looking at amps that are stable at 1 or 4 ohms though is that right?

Lastly, if you pair up a 900RMS amp and a 600RMS sub, is that not dangerous for the sub? I get confused with the numbers and all that stuff. Lol.

We aren't "recommending" it. It's just that this sub is capable of handling more than its rating. Apparently it's underrated just like most good amps, but you can still run the risk of blowing it by putting more into it than its actual rating, so it's at your own risk.

Check out eBay for Rockford Fosgate 800a2, 700s or 750s, etc.
Old MTX (Blue) Thunder amps are good too.

I was originally going to get the 800a2 but got a better deal on the 750s.
They are somewhat hard to come by, but keep looking.
I got mine for $150US and run it at 4 ohm, to keep the bass tighter.

I may have the amp you are looking for. It is an Alpine 3545. It will work wonderfully with that sub(I have 2 type r's, both dvc 2 ohm). the amp is older, but is in great shape, and I have kept the internals in better condition than most amps, by having the amp professionally cleaned once a year(it has dual cooling fans and draws in alot of dust) I will sell it to you for $225. you will not be dissappointed. It is rated for 700 watts, but has been proven to be underrated. These amps were #1 in the world back in the day. Just some food for thought.

if interested, hit me back. I live in Surrey, I'm sure we can arrange something.

Don't mean to jack the thread, but what are some opinions on the Rockford P550.2, (bridged) for a dual 2-Ohm , 12inch Type R?

It'd put out 550W RMS bridged, so you'd be pretty close to the RMS spec for the sub.

It all depends if you intend to play by the rules or not.

yeah, I'll play it safe.....I was just wondering because I know the Rockford amps tend to be underrated but I should be fine...

Its going for 249 US on the American Crutchfield website, so I couldn't resist (free shipping/no tax)...I just have to make time to pick it up lol...

Has anyone had problems blowing the sub by pumping it more than its recommended RMS? I am having trouble finding something in terms of an amp, so my options are wide open right now if anyone else has anything for sale or recommends any amps they use for the Type R!
