Is it recommended or ok to mount the amp to the sub box itself?

just wondering about where the best place to mount the amp in the car.

Keep the amp upright so the heat sink can function properly. Make sure it is in a well ventilated spot and is secure in case of an accident.

Box mounting is not usually recommended unless precautions are taken. If the box is properly built with the amp mounting in it's design, it can work well. As Sticky mentioned, any well ventilated area where the amp can be mounted as per manufacturer's instructions works best.

i personally don't like mounting the amp to the box cause if someone breaks in your car all they have to do is take the box and they get everything.

^ IMO that is your biggest concern. Physically it's not a big deal.

It really isn't a big deal at all other then a few things. if you ever change your mind and wanna mount the amp somewhere else, you now have holes in you box that you have to plug.(just a bit of silicone in each hole) Your subs and amp is a nice little package for a thief in a situation where a good security system isn't in place. Other then that, mounting you amp on the box shouldn't cause any problems.

if someone reallly wants the amp i think they'd just take it even if it weren't mounted on the box..

ok, good to know. So it shouldn't affect the sound coming from the subs though right?

I disagree. If someone breaks in to your car having the sub box and amp in different mounting areas won't really deter them enough to NOT take something.

My biggest concern would be flex on the PCB due to vibrations causing problems internally. (especially with some of the larger amps that don't properly support the board internally)

^ I have never seen an amp fail because it was mounted on an enclosure. :ohwell:

If an amp does not have proper board support then it is in trouble regardless of where it is mounted.

As far as the enclosure goes - if it has enough panel flex to damage the amp mounted to it, then IMO you have bigger problems :dunno:

Generally I don't go looking to box mount an amp but I don't lose sleep over it either.
