remote start queston? (polar start)
i recently installed a polar start in a 91' cavalier. when i try and program the remote i am having difficulty. to get to program mode it says hold down the hood switch for 4 seconds release then press again. the park lights should now stay on for 20 sec, then turn key to on position until the lights go out then off,on,off (so far so good) but then it says push the lock button twice (on the remote)and the park lights should flash 5 times. but they don't flash. am i missing something is there something else i have to do? i mean the parklights are working and the antenna is hooked up so i don't know why it is not picking up the transmitter? i have reason to believe that it is possible the remote belongs to a different model polar start, but that is all i can think of unless there is some sort of jumper that needs to be set. there is a set of three jumpers (accessories 2, ignition 2, starter 2), what does that have to be set to. this was my first car starter install, and i know the wiring is right because i tested them all with my meter first.
Sometimes you have to press the lock button more than twice. More often than not, I just keep pressing it until the P. lights start flashing. If they don't, then it must be an antenna/transmitter issue, or possibly ignition sense as mentioned above.
ok i double checked all the wiring and it is good.there are three main harnesses (large power connector, smaller connector (with ground, tach, hood switch, brake switch and parking lights) and the last connector (glow plug input, n/a, ground, ext. trigger input, neg. parking lights, starter kill output, LED, disarm, rearm, unlock, lock, trunk). i didn't connecct the third connector since nothing applied to the install but do i still have to connect the ground for that portion. also there is a green wire on the main power connector that says 5th relay is that just for aux stuff? this instution manual is so vague!! it is pissing me off specially since it is my first time installing a starter.
ya that is what i thought. what about settings, like those jumpers i mentioned. anything else i should do be sides wiring it up and beginning to program the remote. then programming the tach but i haven't got that for yet.
