Remote Wire Clarification
 

Hi, I just installed a sub in my car using a Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD deck. My understanding is that a remote wire turns on the amp when the deck is on, ...
BUT... if the subwoofer settings are turned off at the deck, the amp will turn off because the remote wire is not sending a signal anymore.

Now, why is it that this deck does not turn off the amp when I turn the sub off in my audio settings? I checked the remote wire, and I noticed that it is always on whenever the deck is on. I want to be able to turn off the subs whenever I don't need them because it uses unneccessary power and puts more wear on the amp. The old deck I used with this amp did turn the amp on and off as needed.

I'm thinking of putting a switch on the remote wire, but I rather have it turn on and off thru the deck. BTW, I know that the blue/white wire is the remote wire.

Or could there be the possibility that somethings wrong with my deck or wiring?

there is nothing wrong. the remote wire only turns off when the deck is off. ive never seen a deck that had a remote that turned off when the sub is selected off. also it would need 2 seperate remotes other wise your front/rear speaker amps would be shutting off as well. u do not need to turn the amp off when not using the subs. it will not wear it out any faster

the option in the deck to shutoff the sub, only shuts off the signal from the rca's, it will not shutoff the remote line..... your deck is working perfectly normal

Really? Maybe it's something I didn't notice with my old setup, I guess Im just being paranoid.

I don't have any speaker amps with my setup so thats why I'm not worried with speaker amps turning off.

So how much power can an amp draw when its powered on but not in use? Just wondering caz sometimes I play music with the car not running.

as much as the light on the amp draws, while in idle the amplifier should pull less than an 1 amp

no man it wont turn off the amp if the sub setting is on OFF. because the same remote wire can be used to run other amps, like for mids and highs. if with sub OFF the remote wire turned off then every other stereo component in your car would turn off. that's common sense.

use a simple switch to turn it on and off. i have that so when i have the baby in the van i can turn off the sub completely
