"I got two 8000s in a ported box connected to the amp into 1 ohm. It gets warm after two hours of beatting it i also changed the fuses to 25 amps hoping that the amp would put out 625 watts rms max but i haven't checked it with the volt meter yet. so i hope ohms law is right and that the amp doesn't have a power lemiting stage but over all its a very good amp but could use some more features. "

^^^ This is a review for the MTX MXA 4001 amp. I have the same amp and was wondering what other people thought of it. Does anything that this guy wrote have any credablility or is it realistic? Like changing the fuse in the amp to make it push 625 watts when it is only rated at 400-475 max?

I wouldn't do it, I have the same amp, and it is ran at 4 ohms for now, but at 1 ohm, lifespan will be reduced.

HyundaiGuyMTX 12-06-2004 09:55 PM

What about the fuse thing and it putting out that many watts? is that realistic?

Dereck Waller 12-06-2004 10:00 PM

Changing the fuse won't gain you any power, otherwise I would just make a nice copper bar across the terminals and gain hella power.

Alright thanks for clearing that amp for me. So what do you think of that amp? Pounds my MZS1004'S pretty nice. I hit 141.6 back to back winning me two sound offs in the summer. Very impressed with this line from MTX. Wish i could have been able to afford the MXS's and the 8001 Im sure that combo pound pretty nice. I always hear people hype up Rockford but if you ask me MTX is much better but then again thats a bias opinion.

I really like the amp. Right now it is just running one MZS12. When I get a chance in the spring I will be adding another twelve.

I would not recommend changing fuses in any amp. It will void any warranty. The fuse size is determind by the manufacture to ensure the product is protected well. You do not gain any power by changing fuses. And the MXA4001 will not do 675 watts, but running it at 1ohm will likely do 2 things.

1- Make the amp go into Thermal.
2- Reduce the control over the driver and transient response.

My opinion on his statement about the amps being good(True they are a great value) but I would not recommend anything he said. ;)

...if it sounds too good to be true....chances are it's B*** S***!
