Resistor question - Help please
 

Hey,

I believe I have a resistor blown in the acc wire in my wiring harness. The harnes is for a pioneer AVX-P8DVD. My question is does anyone know what size (?? if you refer to resistors by 'size') resistor this would be? I can replace it easily but just need to know what one to replace it with.

Resistor values are in ohms (kilohms, or megohms for larger values ones) generally. If you can find the old resistor and list the colour code off of it, we can go from there. Do you have a multimeter to test it with, also, to check for continuity, and to see if it is reading within spec?

I just reread your post, is it a resistor, or a fuse?

Yes, it is a resistor. And it is blue in color with yellow, red, black and brown stripes on it in that order.

I do have a multimeter, how do I test it using that?

well looks like its a 42 ohm resistor with about a 1-2 % tolerance either way.

420 ohm, you forgot the brown stripe.

the third stripe is mutipied by ten.

I believe it is 42 ohms, the brown is probably the tolerance stripe. 420 would be yellow, red, brown.

Put it to the ohms setting, smallest range possible, and see what reading you get. If it goes to infinity, or out of range, then it is open.

yah I can tell :P the fourth strip wether its brown , silver , or gold all measure tolerance. brown = 1-2 % gold = 5% silver = 10%
