Find out how much a re-cone is and then the price of replacment and then decide for yourself. My suggestion would be to replace...

Cavalier Chunk 01-20-2005 09:03 AM

k i think ill do the recone then, cause this was my first car audio investment and i don't want to just throw them out. and if i was to peplace them i would have no idea as to where to buy them.
im not all to sure if i want to go shopping on ebay quite yet.

From what you were implying by "ripping out the tweeters" is that they are co-ax's... do they even re-cone co-ax's?

Cavalier Chunk 01-20-2005 09:21 AM

im not sure all i know is that it's a fanatic HPC2205 5 1/4 speaker. the guys at sound obbsessions just built me a system off thier computer and they put them on thier and i said ill take'em. o and they we're also on the sale table or that table that im begining not to like.

Haunz 01-20-2005 10:42 AM

I dont think its very common to recone small (cheap) speakres... although Iam sure you can, it'll cost ya.... (replacements from ebay might be about the same)

Also, if the reconer cab save the cone at least they will look the same... but with different spiders/coils you will have 2 different speakers....

well ill figure something out.

You cannot re-cone Rockford coax or seperates....only subs.

Dude, if you are only allowed to buy from local stores, then why even mention buying from ebay. You are your own worst enemy.... loudti has it bang on in this case, even if they could be reconed, it would be more expensive than buying a new speaker.

Cavalier Chunk 01-20-2005 01:59 PM

um ya i did not say i was going to buy from ebay. i said i was not all up to shopping across the internet. mr2nr can you just drop it already i have sent you a pm

youngpup 01-20-2005 01:59 PM

Why not just get a set of used ones off of someone on this board. I'm sure someone has a pair of co-ax speakers for sale at a reasonable price.

MR2NR 01-20-2005 02:11 PM

Sorry dude, but if you want to waste peoples time, then so be it. Maybe I just don't know how to read but for most of us these quotes say it all.

"im not all to sure if i want to go shopping on ebay quite yet."

Followed up with

"um ya i did not say i was going to buy from ebay."

Tyler I'm not trying to pick on you at all, but damn dude, you just set yourself up for failure and abuse. I have had some customers just like you that have developed into good friends over the years. Remember, I am not the one who says one thing and then says another, I am only commenting on the things that you said. Get your story straight puhleez. We all can help you in many different ways. Advice is free, knowledge from people on this site is plentiful.

Cavalier Chunk 01-20-2005 02:15 PM

thx i just sent you a pm trying to patch up the stupid things i have done. ok let me refrase that ebay thing then. i am willing to buy off ebay, but im just learning so im not quite ready to go on thier and shop yet.

Tyler, the best thing you can do is to keep asking questions no matter how "stupid" they may sound. I have had all sorts of questions asked over and over and over agian in the last 18 years. They are never stupid and they always need to be asked an answered. EBAY is a dumping ground for electronics, personally I would stay right the hell away from there. At least from a store you have recourse much easier should there be a problem. Sometimes the best price is the wrong choice and will cost you far more in the long run.

Cavalier Chunk 01-20-2005 02:28 PM

but, ebay is good for other things right? like hard to find items and what not.

loudtdi 01-20-2005 02:34 PM

Try to support your local dealers.....they are the ones with all the free advice and knowledge.

There is deals on e-bay and other on-line retailers that seem too good to be true....when considering purchasing in this method you must consider the exchange rate, shipping, brokerage etc.

Most likely any purchases from south of the border will not offer any type of Canadian warranty either.

When you factor in all of the above points, you can more accurately compare prices with what you can get in your own town.

I like anyone like to save money and get a good deal. I personally will pay a bit more to support my local dealers, especially independants & Canadian owned. This goes for what ever I am buying. I bought my last Tissot south of the border because I saved $400.00, If it was going to only be $100.00 I would have bought domestically.

Buying in Canada helps the Canadian economy.....buying in the US does not.

Hey big guy,

Go and BUY these from Fat Whacker.

They are decent quality, CHEAP, and are the same size as the RF's you blew.

He is a good guy to deal with and they are brand new in the box.

I try to buy stuff of the for sale section here mostly myself.
I dont like to pay a lot, obviously, like everyone, and I find that I can get great gear for cheap from reputable human beings, which is unfortunately not always who you end up dealing with at shops.

I would highly recommend you simply find some stuff on there you like, then discuss with the sellers for references, safeguards like COD payments, and stuff like that.

I have dealt with both 'old' members and new, and as long as you are pleasant and make sure of all the details (there arent THAT many dont worry) everything should go as expected.

You may even meet some local guys to help you out with setups and stuff, or that may think back to when they were in their 'teens, and hook you up.

Good Luck

You can definatly get parts for smaller speakers... but Iam not sure you will find many reconners that would bother or would be able to make it cost effective over buying a new set....
