My BD has a kind of buzzin noise in it?

Just have a quick setup as i got an amp today.

Its on a Battery charger> 1 Farad Cap> Amp.

Amp mkaes a buzzing noise, But when i unhook the Batterycharger from the Cap when the amp stays on it doesn't buzz??

Ive hooked amps up this way alot and none have done this?

If you open the case on the amp, the round pieces wrapped in copper coil (kinda like a donut) cause the problem with RF amps. The windings may have come a little loose. You can squish them back together with your fingers. My 1000BD did the same and my rep (a former technician) recommended me to try that and voila no more buzz.

Um, if its brand new you might consider returning it before you take the cover off to fix anything ???

Hey, not a bad deal !

People refer to it as the Toroid. It is a toroidal transformer (fancy that eh)

slow/n\low 11-19-2004 05:06 PM

^ correct, it was a problem with the Toroid from the factory. I never saw 1 BD500 ever in a store that did not do this. My friend phoned down to RF and they told him to just bang his hand on the heat sink and it will go away

I miss the old RF, when quality control was a concern of thiers

The buzzing wont effect the amp though if that helps, it is just annoying

CanadianBronco 11-19-2004 06:54 PM

I agree its annoying lol,

I guess this is a Big issue then huh, That sucks.

Paul Niwranski 11-20-2004 08:24 AM

Well not a "big" issue but it lasted an entire year so a lot of BD500s have this condition.

I would squirt a little CA in there myself and let it set up.

Incidentally - there have been other amps from other brands over the years that have this issue here and there. The BD500 is just the most recurring case I have seen.
