Why is it a bad thing? I took a quick look a guy sent me of the spec sheet for the IC Chip amp onboard most head units, and they all seem to say that 2 ohm is perfectly fine to run...

any thoughts why the manufacturers like to only list 4-8 ohm ratings on decks

I would assume it's a combination of things. one being that all car speakers, (OEM, and pre packaged sets) are 4 OHM, so a 2 ohm connection on a 4 hom x-over for a component set would make x-over points, and slope change and the current draw a 2 ohm setup would yield to the electrical system in the factory wiring for the radio...

But thats just a quick guess at 5 after midnight.

For basic set ups, two ohm STEREO loads on a decent brand of head unit is no problem.

A unique feature of Pioneer MOSFET head units are that they are able to drive a subwoofer (or subwoofers) at a two ohm mono load off the rear channel. It's pretty amazing to see a vehicle that has 12" subwoofers in it that can hit 140db+ using the head unit as it's subwoofer amplifier.

K..... I need to see this.... or proof of this LOL... time to get a deck and test this out.... I've never heard of that before.... WOW.....

Im not talking about the Pioneer deck and its bridging ability, I'm talking in general of most decks. They state for the Chip amp inside the deck that most will do 4 X XX watts @ 2ohms just fine.

An amp that makes the same claim has HUGE heat sinks.....

The Deck does not....

Making power means heat...

My question is, Yes the deck CAN do it but for how long???? A road trip to Whisltler? I do not think so.

One question.......why would you run deck power @ 2ohms?

Who said I was wanting to run it at 2 ohms? Im an inquisitive guy. I like to gain knowledge on things and understand the reasons why, and not take someones specs at face value.
