I bought an Infinity Kappa 12.1 and will have a guy who is gonna make the box for me with 1 inch MDF.
The internal volume recommended buy Infinity is 1 cubic foot. My questions are: I don't think having all sides at the same equal dimensions is good because of a wave cancelation (not sure how to say that in english). So what will you guys suggest? 14 X 14 X 8.8 + 1 inch on each sides for the MDF. Is it gonna be good? The recommended volume should not taken account of the box itself. Right? Thanks to helping me with that one. lappy |
Yeah, that's pretty good. With a box that small, you may not even need bracing if you use 1-inch thick MDF.
But the probelm with wave cancellation is not because of equal dimensions of all sides, it's because of parallel sides. So your box still has the front and back parallel with each other, and it still may get some cancellation. The only solution would be to "slant" one side and adjust the other side lengths accordingly. This is a subject of some debate, however, so you may or may not need to worry about it. IMHO if "your guy" puts some polyfill on each side and does a good job sealing it, the box should be fine. |
there is no way a wave under 200hz is going to stand and be able to 'cancel' in your tiney box..
Slanting the back of the box could change the way waves caused by distortion interact... could reduce overall distortion, or it could make it worse.... I dont think it will make a real big audible difference either way... so I wouldnt worry about it too much... [ December 14, 2004, 12:16 AM: Message edited by: Haunz ] |
imo for a box that small 1" mdf is over kill.but at least you know it will be solid.
you should maby think about building your box accoding to the golden ratio.but on second thought i think that box will be to small( you wont be a side on your box big enought to mount the sub on) it was just a thought just rem to add the sub displacement into you calculation when making your box [ December 13, 2004, 10:50 PM: Message edited by: hofulstrof ] |
^ I'll agree that 1" MDF is probably overkill...
golden ratio ? I don't think so |
whats wrong with the golden ratio?

Its based on a shape that is supposed to be visually appealing and some mathmatical relationship....
It seems to be connected to a whole lot of pseudo-science and wierd occult ****.. |
What this sub displacement mean? How Can I calculate it?
Thanks lappy |
