Servo Subwoofers

Has there been much car-audio work with servo based subwoofer systems?
More home-audio compainies are getting into this, I even found a DIY kit...interesting idea, and for some compaines (Velodyne) it has worked great...

As in servo-servo, or rotary motor servo?
If you're talking about the latter, I haven't seen anything singe the PG cyclone... Geolemon is working on a servo project. Very interesting...

^^still considered a top quality subwoofer
Sure servo limits ouptu by design...but does it really limit so much that its a bad thing?
I personlly would take accuracy over output.
I know the Velodyne DD18 can still hit 117db SPL (in room, mic 18" from driver) at 31.5hz. For the hometheater hardcores it hit 100dB SPL (in room, mic 18" from driver)at 15hz!!
Thats atill decent output IMO - sure not record breaking SPL's hear folks but accurate and LOUD.

...but does anyone know if servo motor subs are legal in db drag? i though i heard something about them being illegal pecause they are power assisted subs or something like that?
if you can't use them for db drag...what's the point!

I used to own a pair of the Velodune DF10SC car subs. They did souund extremely good but they were damn picky about everything! I still have nightmares about setting up that control box Also, in terms of output, the circuitry did limit output to 110dB according to the manual.
All setup issues aside, they were one of my favorite sounding subs to date!

IMO anyone who thinks they need more that 110dB SPL from a sub needs to give the head a shake!

110 DB of in-car bass is pretty limited; it is. That's hardly louder than raised-voice talking. If you are only getting 110 dB, you aren't getting much impact IMO.
Some others who have played in the car audio servo-feedback subwoofer realm besides Linear Power and Velodyne include Alphasonik, Blade and Yamaha.
