Should I Change My Sub Amp?

Hey guys, an oppourtunity has presented itself to me but I don't know if I should do anything about it.

A buddy of mine has offered to buy my sub amp off of me, my Phoenix Gold Xenon x400.1. It has a birth certificate showing 420 watts rms. He is willing to pay me $200 if I install it for him which I don't mind doing anyways, he'll provide the cabling. Unfortunately I have to make the decision to sell it or not by tomorrow night because he needs the amp in for Wed. night. I don't mind going without bass for a bit if I have to, I leave for a 1.5 week long trip on Friday anyways.

So basically if I had $300, give or take a little (or take a lot lol), to play with for only an amp is there anything worth switching it with.

I planned on upgrading subs and amp next year but now may prove to be the time to do the amp now. My subs are 2 x Infinity 1030Ws and plan on getting something more substantial next year so I figure the new amp should be in the ballpark of 600rms @ 2 ohms mono or 4 ohm stereo to be worthy of swapping out my amp.

What I don't want to do is degrade the sound quality.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There's no way I can go without bass until Dec. especially after I just went through the installation process of going from 1 amp to 2.

Maybe I will wait. I can't really afford to put more than $150 on top of the $200 I would get. So that gives me $350 to get something that is an upgrade. Probably not likely.

Has anyone bought amps off of, dare I say it, Ebay?

The only other serious thought I had was upgrading to the Xenon 600.1. They can be found pretty cheap on Ebay.

I have also been considering the Alpine MRP-M650 (the perfect match to my 4 ch.) but something tells me the quality isn't like the Phoenix Gold Xenon.

i would look at selling it next yr and see what you need for a $ and if there is F-all that you can get you have bace sill
i like gitting the amps i need then selling off the old amps /or if an amp goes bad i sill have one for a show untill i can get that one fixed
i sell off all most no amp/speakers unless i need to or i'm flipping the amp/speakers

At this point I can't afford to have any backup gear. I'm just a poor school boy lol. I'm one of the rare breed who actually works hard and pays for everything on their own including car, insurance, school etc.

I believe I will wait until next year unless I come across a stupid deal in the next 24 hrs. My amp will be worth close to the same next year anyways, probably $140-$150ish.

Would the amp in THIS for sale thread be an improvement, or just a step sideways?

def. sideways, ...I would look into something different, but thats just me...I would say if your buddy wants/needs it, do it up!!
