Should I repair my JBL BP600.1 amp?
 

it busted a long ways back... it popped and started smoking... you guys think it's worth repairing?....

I'm not actually gonna be using it because i've got a precision power amp now... but i'm just curious....

If you could get a free estimate, it might be worth looking into. However, the cost to repair it and then resell it (which I assume you would be doing) would not be worth it. If you want to sell it, sell it broken for a low price, someone will know how to fix it and pick it up for like 50 bucks. Just my $0.02.

Ha, Who does free estimates on electronics? You basically have to troubleshoot to find exactly what the problem is. That is what takes the time. Replacing the dead transistor once you find it is usually fast and cheap... unless it is a Rockford Fosgate... replacing power mosfets on those is not fun.

Free Estimates that is! Thanks for the compliment Mark. Spoke with Steve today regarding the Treo amp and he was pretty pleased with the repair estimates considering that the amp has a blown power supply and output.

If I were you I'd just open it up and find out yourself.
if it started smoking that means something is burnt.
That should be easy to find, my guess is that it is a transistor or two.
I had that happen to an mtx 6500d, bought 2 new transistors for about $15, soldered them in and it worked good as new.
