I notice now when you call 1888539sirius you automatically go to Sirius Canada instead of the head of sirius. Anyone done any activations in the last couple days? If someone activates a new account can they still do it the traditional grey market methong via sirius.com?
Thanks guys ;)

Now that CRTC has open the Canadian Market to Sat Radio you can only activate a Canadian Tuner on the Candian Programing. Sirius is being launched Nov 29, 2005 and Xfm is online now. From what I heard even if you try and activate a US tuner you will be tranfered back to Canada's version. You will need a US visa or master card if you still want the us version.

you can still get around canadian programming by subscribing online.

both toll free numbers redirect to canada.

XM canada will activate any hardware right now and there's an open invite to any current US subscribers to switch over.

why didn't I take the blue pill

NTOXKTD 11-30-2005 04:37 PM

How will the US ones be switched over? The Canadian hardware has a chip in the unit while the american one doesn't.

Shaughn Murley 11-30-2005 06:54 PM

it's just like sat TV, they can block or allow channels based on ESN.

doesn't matter the hardware.

Coffeyman 11-30-2005 08:33 PM

is there a activation fee for sirius yet? or are they doing the free thing for the first little while? i know xm has a standard activation fee....

Lethal 12-01-2005 01:09 AM

Free activation until the end of December.

XM is $19.99 activate over phone
$14.99 activate online save 25% .

JL 12-01-2005 01:31 AM

Sirius Canada will be waving activation fees on the first 50,000 subscribers.

Monthly Family Plan subscription of $14.99 for the first unit, and $7.99 for each additional unit, up to 4 units

Flexible Plans include:
1 year commitment – pay for 11 months and get 1 month free-$164.89
2 year commitment – pay for 21 months and get 3 months free-$314.79
3 year commitment – pay for 31 months and get 5 months free-$464.69
Pay $ 549.99 ONCE and NEVER pay again for the lifetime of your radio

Phone in only at first. Internet activations will follow.... Hopefully soon.

Claudio Piccolo 12-01-2005 01:17 PM

You do not need to change your hardware. you can activate on either Canada or USA programing online. You can also change your USA Programing to Canada when ever you like.

try that number for sirus US, one guy in saskatoon said that's the number he got from somewhere and it worked for him to call and chnge an esn on his account

defro13 12-01-2005 10:21 PM

activated 4 online(american) today no problem and will continue to have no problem. if people just sit back and think for a minute they will realize how virtually impossible and unlikely it will be for sirius and xm to bloack "canadian" credit cards. do you really think that they wont take your money

Coffeyman 12-01-2005 10:55 PM

i didn't want to start a whole new thread just for this one comment....but i'll throw it in here...

so FS had their big sirius release today.
they shipped our store 4 reciever units in total.
(XM sent us a whole stand full of product)
what...is sirius trying to hold back on canadian market like xbox 360?!?....i don't get it, but i had a lot of pissed of potential sirius buyers today. oh well, we'lll see who comes out on top in a couple of months or so.

Number 2 12-01-2005 11:01 PM

^In response. I don't think Sirius anticipated the same response to release that XM did. They don't have enough product to meet demand right now.

this car audio scene is getting to political. i quit!!

Puggsley456 12-03-2005 05:05 PM

What really sucks is that I cant get a canadian tuner to use with my sat ready kenwood HU.

pinhead 12-03-2005 07:04 PM

kenwood tuners are suppost to be available in january

BigBubba 12-03-2005 10:27 PM

I sold 4 Sirius Jam-Packs today for $199 ea. no problem with activation.... so FS can stick that streamer POS for $69 where the sun don't shine! :D

Paul Niwranski 12-04-2005 11:57 AM

That is the audiovox unit, correct? Circuity City here in the States was having a great deal on them. I picked up several last week(US$69.99 and then you send in a $50 rebate). I swapped out my old clarion tuner for the plug n play. I think it sounds better, and it is so nice having a display that has all the info on it.

I hope you guys up north enjoy sirius as much as I have(ok, you might like XM too)

BigBubba 12-05-2005 03:58 PM

Yeah it is, I like it, I bought my dad one for x-mas

Puggsley456 12-05-2005 05:23 PM

Do you guys think I should wait for a Kenwood tuner, Or should I just go with a plug and play unit and just hard wire it into the deck through the Changer port with an adapter?

You are paying a monthly subscription, would you like to use it outside of your car? Kind of like cell phones... do you want a car only cell phone or would you like to use it elsewhere? That's the question you need to ask yourself. Ones that hook directly to your deck are usually controlled through it so it makes it easy as well as hidden.

Paul Niwranski 12-06-2005 01:21 PM

^ Hm, along that vein - there is a cell phone/MP3 player on the market. I wonder how long before the cell phone/satellite radio receiver comes out? Most people carry their cell phone everywhere anyway and then there will be combination in-car hands free kit / satellite radio docks and other accessories.

Should be neat-o.

There are TRUE portables that work hand held on their own & there are also portables that "dock" in the vehicle or the home but do not work on their own. Those technically should be call "transportable" models. It's pretty obvious to tell by the price as the TRUE portable units sell for around $399 right now.

cavy man14 12-06-2005 02:40 PM

I see know talk about XM in here LOL,im really surprised it stayed on the topic on sirius.

i was just wondering for my own knowledge whats the diff between XM,Sirius

But even if you can have use in your home / office / shop it is a better "value" than having the only use in your vehicle.

I believe the issues raised in this post are the same for Sirius/XM & that is why you don't see much detail in the two competing companies.

The difference lies mainly in the programming that each company offers. Think of it like Bell Expressvu & Starchoice. Check out their web sites for each companies' channel listings:

www.siriusradiocanada.com

www.xmradio.ca

Some electronics manufacturers are only compatible with one or the other & others support both for add-on tuners.

Puggsley456 12-06-2005 05:55 PM

Sorry I guess I was slightly misunderstood. I am looking to buy one of the starmate $99 ones. But what I was wondering is.....If I do buy one of those. And then proceed to use a mini headphone to rca cord to wire it into my deck through a rca to Kenwood changer conector. Would there be a difference in sq between that and just using a direct plugin tuner?

Pioneer Guy 12-06-2005 06:18 PM

I would think so. I'm not 100% up on my Kenwood units but if their direct tuner goes through their changer connector that should be a digital transmission. Using an RCA cord would be analog & probably wouldn't be as good.

Paul Niwranski 12-07-2005 01:52 PM

^ Would the changer connector be digital? The changer has it's own D/As so I have always assumed it was analogue.. Plus that would allow for input adaptors and the use of a changer with a cassette deck that would not need to have D/As at all.

lol: cassette deck? cas-sette deck.... ??
