Small Enclosure Sub?
For my new car I'm limited on space so I'm looking for a decent sub that uses a small enclosure. Right now I'm thinking a JL 10w6v2. It needs roughly 0.7cuft and that is my maximum for allowed space.
Any recommendations for a sub that requires a small box or will the JL be good? My amp is a 1000.1bd Rockford Fosgate 1000Watts @ 2 OHM. My previous car was running two 12.1 Infinity Kappa's. I'm not sure what to expect from a single 10" sub. |
That much power might melt that JL. Be darned careful on the gain setting and the use of the volume dial.

LOL... melting the sub is a concern I have. I just can't justify selling the amplifier and buying a new one. Especially since I know I'd get nothing but chump change for it.

Take a look at the Stereo Integrity BM mkIII(shallow sub), this sub need only 0,5cuft. I'm testing one right now and after a few hours of playtime it now pound as much as my 10" IDMAX (if not a bit more).

I was looking at the shallow mount subs before. Pioneer, JL Tw5 (which was too big), and several others.
Never heard of the one mentioned above. I guess it is time for more research! |
Mach 5 Audio IXL (SL version)
Cheap, and can take 1000rms. Only thing is it needs about 1.2 cubic feet sealed |

alpine swx 1043 needs only .49 cubic feet net for a sealed application and uses 1000 watts rms, you'll need a box that's atleast 8.75" deep internally. Basically, if you can build a box that's 11x11x12.5 (outside dimensions)with 3/4 mdf you're good to go, as it will give you 0.508 cuft net (after sub displacement internal volume) and you can gain a little virtual volume by adding 1/2 pound of polyfill to achieve a volume of .63 cu ft. Excellent sounding sub, plenty loud, tough, 2ohm final load perfect for your amp...but a little expensive.
