Smartass Subwoofer Testing **PICS ADDED**
Well we have been toying with the idea of marketing our own subwoofer line. We have been testing a few drivers from other OEM manufactures. However any of the drivers we have tested did not in some shape or form wow us. So we started working with an OEM manufacture and using a couple of professionals we think we have built an excellent balanced driver. Both cost and performance wise. We are coming out will a 10,12,15 inch versions. All of which are dual 4 ohm voice coils, double stacked magnets, high excursion surround, super stiff spider, cast basket and a one piece mounting gasket that covers the mounting screws.
The 10" will be a 900/450Wrms, 18-1500Hz, 2" 4 Layer Black Aluminum VC, 130oz magnet structure. And will work in the following enclosures: Optimum sealed: 0.5cu. ft. Range: 0.25 - 4.0cu. ft Optimum ported: 0.6cu. ft./Fb=45Hz Extended bass: 1.0cu. ft./Fb=33 High output: 0.3cu. ft./Fb=60Hz This driver will retail between $110-120cdn The 12" will be a 1300/650Wrms, 27-1000Hz, 2.5" 4 Layer Black Aluminum VC, 200oz magnet structure. And will work in the following enclosures: Optimum sealed: 0.8cu. ft. Range: 0.3 - 6.0cu. ft Optimum ported: 0.8cu. ft./Fb=43Hz Extended bass: 1.3cu. ft./Fb=35 High output: 0.5cu. ft./Fb=50Hz This driver will retail between $120-140cdn And the 15" will be a 1300/650Wrms, 28-900Hz, 2.5" 4 Layer Black Aluminum VC, 200oz magnet structure. And will work in the following enclosures: Optimum sealed: 3.3cu. ft. Range: 1.0 - 10.0cu. ft Optimum ported: 4.7cu. ft./Fb=42Hz Extended bass: 7.5cu. ft./Fb=33 High output: 1.7cu. ft./Fb=55Hz This driver will retail between $150-180cdn Now having said this we would like some input from you guys. Want to know if this is the type of driver you would try. We should be recieving a few prototypes in the next 2 weeks. And then once we have them and pictures and testing have been completed we would like to get aprox. 4 people to buy the drivers at dealer cost to try them out, kill them beat them and so on. So idealy we would like 4 people per size single or dual setups to run them through the paces. I would love to just hand them out but its impossible as we have dumped a ton of coin into the project. We have kept the look very basic and put the money into the important pieces. Can't tell you the name we are marketing under yet either sorry. SO please give us some feedback be nice or not we want to hear it. And if you are interested in the testing phase please PM or email and please be sure you have the system to really test them. Thanks guys I have included a poll and you may pick multiple choices. |
It would be nice to have custom VC for those subs, but if you want to ship one out to edmonton id like to test one of the 15s.

I have seen these not so up close and personal, but STeve, you already know that when I get my Bmw, I am SOOO hittin you up on a set!

Would definitely like to try them.. I'd personally prefer a bit more power handleing from the 10's (the 12's and 15's look great though) and also dual 2's.

Great thanks guys, ya we are playing with the idea of different VC configurations but for the first few runs will be the 4+4ohm coils. And later down the road once we get our orders moving and pricing down a bit stuff like finish magnet boot covers and powder coated or chrome baskets but not overly important yet. We want to make sure the driver is a good solid unit and works well before making it look pretty. Cause no matter how much you polish a terd, its still a terd. :p
|
lol...well put steve, a terd is a terd..lol haha mint

Man i am liking the 12inch version already, i would deffinitly buy one at dealer cost to try it out. Of course i would be the hell out of it with my rap and bass tests but that's what subs are for..
