Hey guys, I just noticed that I am not sure which is the + and - that are matching at my mids and my amp... Like I dont know which wire is + on the mid and which one to plug into the + on the amp... I have everything setup now but I am not 100% sure that I am right... Is there any ill effects if by chance I dont have them right???? If I need to figure it out is there any easy ways to do this?? The whole car is wired.

 

Speaker wire will usually have marking to distinguish the polarity. Sometimes ++++, writing, colour will be unique to one side of the wire. Check which is on the positive on the speaker and keep it uniform on all speakers so you know which is which when you get to the amplifier or reversed.

If you have the wires incorrect on any of the speakers: frequency response, imaging, soundstage will be lacking.

 

If you are unsure and don't want to pull the car apart, many IASCA test disc's have a polarity check on them. A local dealer may have one.

 

Argh... This is really gonna suck.. I guess I will have to pull all of the door off again, lol this is like the 5th time since i Started this upgrade... hah hah!! and probably wont be the last!! :S Thanks AGAIN hard, maybe if there is any other way to see at the amp end of the wiring???

 

I heard once something like a battery to the positive side of a speaker wire should make the speaker jump or something??? Im not sure exactly what I heard...

 

if ur amp is marked + (positive) - (negative).... and ur not sure wat ur speaker is then use a AA battery connect both wires to the battery... like 1 wire one side 1 wire other side, if ur speacker moves up, the + on the battery will be connected to the postive speaker wire...

Hook both ends up to the battery... if the speaker moves then the positive speaker wire is on the positive end of the battery and if it doesnt move then the negative wire is on the positive side of the battery???? AA battery, has a positive on the top (with the little bump) the negative (is the flat side) now if the speaker moves up then wire on the positive side (bump on the top) that means that wire is the positive, now if the speaker moves down... then reverse the wires around

maybe use a AAA just in case... even though AA is small but it moved my w7, so ya i dont want u to wrekc ur stuff

get hook it up, and get someone who knows what they are doing to listen to it. They will be able to tell you instantly if its correct or not.
