Sound Deadening
 

So what is the make-up of sound deadening?
I'm wondering if there are alternatives available at the local hardware store, at a fraction of the cost; I'm a cheap guy who is willing to put in a lot of extra elbow-grease to make something work at the fraction of the cost (just look at my post about the system I'm building on $150 - I am cheap!)

So any alternatives out there?

I used Rona's Peel and stick(roofing patch stuff), 1/4 the cost and just as effective. Most deadeners are tar based hence why they do there job so well.

HA roof patches? thats awesome. and here i was going to say old t shirts in whatever space you can fit them in, but this was when i first got into this stuff, we put them into the trunk of an eagle talon because the spoiler used to rattle and they seemed to do the trick, but sounds like roofing patches would be a better choice

You have to be careful with any of the asphalt based stuff though since it can melt and drip. Also the fumes are fantastic is your into the whole cancer thing.

You can find great deals online for Hushmat, Raam60 and B-quiet extreme. All are very effective and durable, don't melt and drip, shouldn't release fumes.

If you want to be real cheap use resisto roofing matt, but make sure the surfaces are really clean and smooth and you break out the heat gun and roller to really make sure it's o there good, otherwise it can peel of and drip. Not to mention cancer fumes

Try to stay away from the asphalt based products because they smell horrible when it gets hot and they do tend to fall down and lose their effectiveness.
Rubberized undercoating is almost the same, but won't fall down, though the smell does stick around for a while.
Some people like to use closed cell foam to adhere to the door skin for superior deadening. You might find some in your local hardware/foam shop for a half decent price.
If you want to wait, I'll bring some Hushmat with me in September.

Thanks for the heads up about the fumes from standard asphalt based stuff. While I can bear the smell for a little while, the idea of breathing in "fumigated air" in a small confined environment doesn't appeal to me.

My local shop carries Hushmat, at this time $100 for the door kit is not in my budget. So I'll have to wait until a later time.

This is just funny, I did my whole car in Peel and stick, smelled for 1 day, and even in the middle of summer, it never fell off, smelled, or anything, just loooked like hell!! Oh well just my 0.02
I also used the spray on deadener ( quiet kote) and this stuff smelled for about a week straight and didn't do that great of a job. Oh well.

elemental designs paint on v3 stuff is pretty good. dont use they're v1 stick on stuff cause it's been tested it cant withstand higher temperatures.
