Sound Deadening
 

so im getting my new subs tomrorow and since my single 10" at 150 watts rattels my trunk i figure i should buy some sound deadening product also?:dunno: ..

as ive never had any experience with this i have a few questions.

for the moment i only want to do the trunk (mostly the top of the trunk itself and the underside of the trunk lid because thats where the majority of the vibration sound is coming from....:sly:

what products do most people use for a small area like this....ive seem adheasive panel like products as well as some from of paint that is applied what works better/ is easier to do/is better for the price/ etc.:dunno:

you cant hear much of the vibration inside the car becuase the speakers pretty much drown it out but from outside the car i get a loud growl on every bass hit. the vibration goes away ALOT when the trunk is popped so most of the vibration is between the 2 sheet metal layers of the trunk lid....

i dono if this is a problem with the products i have bought but iv found when u go to subs which can handle more watts they seem to do less shaking of your car. i dont want to say they arnt as loud caus and im not sure how exactly to explain this but i noticed a deffinit lack of physical vibration when i moved from a sub and amp that ran at 150 rms to one that is rated at 500. it sounds more natural i guess.. :sly: just somthing to consider.

If the rattles mostly go away when the lid is open, it may be your license plate and it's frame (if it has one), or the trunk latch may need to be tightened.

The plate and frame need some "black stuff" to stop them from vibrating against the outside of the trunk lid. There should be a couple of bolts on the trunk latch that you can use to adjust how tight the lid is pulled down against the trunk.

Try that before you spend money on anything.....they should get rid of most of the noise.

I would suggest very strongly against getting the Adhesive panel like products if you are talking about the ones that come in a box that kinda resemble peel and stick flooring. The panels will fall off within a week, even faster if it's hot outside .... don't waste your money. I would suggest that if you are serious about making the rattles go away, then have someone sound dampen your trunk. The brand name is less important than the actual installation of the product in this case (unless you get those silly silly peel and stick type panels) There is a lot more to sound dampening then you think. They actually seal your trunk because as you know, sound is actually the flow of air. Every time your bass hits it moves the air (which causes rattle). This is why a lot of the rattle will go away when people put their back seats down or even open their windows. Airflow is also very important for the building of boxes also.

yea thats the majority of the problem....almost all vibration goes away with the lid popped......i tryed tightening the liecense plate, talights, i adjusted the latch so it clsoes tighter.....it has reduced the vibration signifigantly but i am still getting some vibration from the actual lid vibrating...so i guess ill head to the local shop and see how much it will cost to have in deadened.:ohwell:
