Sound deadening Q - dynamat over or under vapour barrier?

Hi All,

Well, happy to say the install's almost done! Worked most of the install gremlins out, just have to deaden the doors and mount up the mids.

Now I pulled the panels off to see what I'm up against... Looks pretty straightforward. Now i'm going to be removing the vapour barrier anyway to lube up the window channels with a silicone lubricant (they've really slowed down over the winter).

Should I be looking to apply the Dynamat right on the metal of the door-frame, and then reapplying the vapour barrier overtop? Or vapour barrier first and then dynamat?

Any other tips appreciated!

Dan

I would put the dynamat first and then put the vapour barrier back.

Sound deadener needs to be applied directly onto the mounting surface, ie., door panel. If you don't, you defeat the purpose of mass loading (lowering the resonant freq. of the panel). This is why you clean the surface super well, then apply the adhesive deadener onto and into every surface you can- the more layers the better. Although expensive and time consuming, if you're going to do it, do it well. I spent atleast 12 hrs per door (including baffle fabs and outer panel mods) and I'd still like to touch it all up. Do a search - there are some really good tutorials available to ensure you get it right. Have a good one.
