Sound Deadner - Few Questions
 

I drive a 1999 tercel, and have an older 10" JLW3D2 (which is supposedly one of the best subs you can from JL back in the day)

I remember the installer saying it was an impressive sub and I am thinking I am losing a lot of bass power because of my tinny tercel trunk.

I also have a store credit so I can only buy what he stocks. He sells Hushmat, Dynamat/xtreme and a no name brand

So here are my questions:

1) I have not heard much about Hushmat, can anyone tell me their experiences? How is it compared to Dynamat Extreme?

2)I do not listen to my sub too loud (because I have not upgraded my big 3, and my dashlights start to dim) and am debating whether to do the door panels as well. Is it worth doing my door panels?

3) If I deaden my trunk will I notice a differnce as far as the sub being "louder/more powerful"? I am correct to believe that I am not hearing the true potential of my sub because all the soundwaves are escaping through my trunk?

Any opinions are appreciated.

deadner is more to stop the metal from vibrating,
dynamat is like a tar you need to heat up till it mealts into the cracks, but anything rubbing against the dynamat will still vibrate...

dynamat is more to stop the wave energy from being lost in the metals by having the metals vibrate.

I recently did my trunk with dynamat extreme. Bass doesn't sound louder, but it is tighter and there is a bit less road noise with the back seat folded down.
IMO it was worth it, and I hear doing your doors is a pretty dramatic improvement as well.

The soundwaves are escaping from your trunk, but dynamat will not fix that. Dynamat kills the noise generated by the bass escaping by damping vibrations in the panels.

HushMat isn't tar based so you don't need to heat it up to install it, there is less prep needed, it won't melt or smell in the summer when it gets hot out. There is also the two different kinds of HushMat, there is the low freq. deadener that looks similar to the Dynamat and then there is the higher freq. deadener which looks like a foam. In theory sound deadener makes your car vibrate less which creates less distortion and makes more of the sound energy go towards sound reproduction rather than vibrating the car. I would highly suggest it.

Dynamat is a great product, I've used it before, it's been around for years, HushMat is fairly new to the market in Canada and have gotten to use it as well, I find that HushMat works better and has fewer drawbacks / easier to install so that is my suggestion.

As he comments about the panels... that is where the HushMat foam would come in handy as it would "de-couple" the panel from the car and help in that case, I have it at every point of contact as well as through the car which definately helps with road noise so the stereo does sound louder to me as I'm not competeing with as much ambient sound outside the car.

I've used both products and currently distribute hushmat....The dynamat extreme is a bit better for vibration dampning, but if its too expensive where ur buying it from the hushmat still is a phenominal product. By Sound deadning, you can grab as much as 3db increase! I wouldn't worry about doin ur doors unless ur buying a shitload of it. Remeber when ur installing it you dont need to do 100% of your truck, only the flat surfaces are gonna vibrate, better to do a couple layers on just the flat surfaces
