BUT I wouldn't put a CD player in it. It would probably be usless from all the skipping. Just find yourself a nice tape deck or something.

We tried putting a system in our Baja car that we made when it was in the 'fitting' stages (before final disassembly for painting). We were going to use a set of 3.5" Eclipse drivers and an 8" 'sub' (Alpine).
Problem 1: Can't hear the 3.5" ... and since the car could ride underwater, we opted for earmuff style headphones (less power, better sound). I suggest GOOD earmuff phones, crappy ones are heavy and fall off easily, better ones isolate outside sounds better too. Ideas for putting the speakers in the headrest were played with but would have required too much work for us.
Problem 2: Small sub + open cocpit = zero bass (unless you have LOTS of power, we did not. Or a lerge box ... not in THIS vehicle). So, I used two bass shakers attached to the back of the seat.
Tunes were good, bass was good (we had an engine with a balance shaft so the vehicle ran pretty smoothly). All in all, if the car hadn't been stolen, we would have eventually isolated the seat from the frame with small dampers and it would have been quite nice.
Power is an issue, but our engine had a small generator capable of producing about 10A. I used a VERY small Alpine 18 x 4 amp and it worked EXCEPTIONAL for the bass shakers. 'Headunit' was my friend's memory-stick MP3 player (I dunno what it was, it's old now). They're waterproof for one, and they're impossible to break.
ps: wanna see the car (basically) Click Here I think there are a few pics somewhere with the stereo installed.

Ettore, I know who to email if I need help now! I love the Baja...mine would probably be a cross between a Baja and racing go-cart (Villeneuve type).
I was thinking more speakers than a sub because of the acoustic environment not present in the open air. Maybe a set of 5 1/4 infinitys...but I need a generator/alternator first...

Ooo isn't this intriguing...
I sell off road go-karts, like this one:
I thought I'd like to do one up with a system... they use four stroke engines that are quite quiet, and with the roll cages, putting in a "cab" wouldn't be impossible... But then I saw that there's no division it could enter in the DB Drags...
But there is a "Mini-SPL" division... for Poerwheels cars or other "electric vehicles intended for small children".
Can you say "winter project"? I knew ya could...

A friend of mine installed a full system on his moped. It has a Panasonic deck and a pair of coax's in a fiberglass pod on the handlebars, a 6 1/2 sub and gel cell battery in the back, and it slams!!!
Some of you may have seen it at the Red Ball comp in June.
