I got a buddy that wants a system in his boat. It's a ski boat and takes some pretty good bumps so I think CD might skip. I was thinking a portable MP3 player connected to an amp. It's got a water proof glove box where the current tape deck is. Sound quality isn't an issue he just wants to be able to hear it over the motor and wind noise. Are the clarion marine speakers any good? Any other cheap speaker I could use? Any CD players out there have shock protection? Thanks

There is but one choice - the new MB Quart marine cd player NRA450 - marine coated circuit boards and a 30 second anti skip buffer. This is what this cd player was designed for.

Appears to be based on one of the RF decks, appearance-wise, at least. http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/ez2/f...RFX9020M_F.jpg [ May 20, 2004, 10:41 PM: Message edited by: JeepBeats ] |
still gonna be tough to get it audible over the motor and wind noise, especially if it has an outboard on it, and its open top

Also keep on mind that the charging systems on most boats don't exceed 40 amps for large outboards and 65 amps for I/O's.

Doesn't Blaupunkt make a head unit that can block out background noise?

I got a cheap pioneer cd player in my boat, not even marine grade and it works fine... we had a old Sony casette deck for 11 years before that and it was not even marine either and laster that long...

i'm not worried about moisture because the unit is gonna be in a waterproof box, I am more worried about skipping as my friend beats his boat accross a choppy lake at full throttle. Is shock protection necessary? Will the unit skip?

Hey Jay,I had a mid priced pioneer in my maxum 1900sr2,it never skipped
i would only use marine grade if the boat is to see salt water use. |
