speaker and amp recommendations

Hey guys I want to buy some new speakers because the stock ones on my sound like garbage. Ive put a new deck in and ive also put a subwoofer in.

What I am looking for is looking for great sounding speakers for a decent price. I like alpine. How do you tell which speakers is going to sound better?

Are decibels the thing that you look at to decide which one will sound good? Is 5 decibels something that is very noticeable between speaker vs speaker? cause thats the difference between the alpine and the infinity. Also what about powering this speakers? Should I just power them off the head unit. I got 20Watts RMS on the head unit. If not how many watts per channel? Also does it matter how much power goes to the speakers? Do I really have to max out the amount of RMS it says on the manual?

Speaker sensitivity has nothing to do with how 'good' they sound. You need to take a CD you know very well and go listen to some speakers at a store. Your ears will tell you which ones are 'good' for you, other people's opinions will not matter to you if you buy and install speakers and don't like the way they sound.....:smokin:

Most stores will be running them off an amp for demonstration purposes because it makes them sound better. That alone should answer the question about whether or not you need to amp your mids and highs. You can use the deck power for now but the speakers will never sound as good as they could.

Since you will have the low frequencies Xover'd out of the signal you can generally use up to 50% above rated RMS power on your front speakers. Most decent quality 6.5" component sets will handle around 100-125WRMS/channel without damage if they are set-up properly.

I have some great speakers that I am overloaded on right now, this means a deal if it interests you. We all hear different and play different music and have differing budgets. As such what sounds good to you in your budget may sound atrocious to someone else with a much higher budget or may sound amazing to someone with a lower budget. It all depends on how you want to stretch your dollar.

Ok so what would you suggest for me?

MR2NR 05-14-2010 02:11 PM

You need to start with a budget for the speakers and the amp.

curtis0432 05-14-2010 02:31 PM

maybe around 300-400 dollars. for everything.

Everything being 1 set of speakers, amp, tax and shipping? What kind of amp are you interested in, a 4 channel to drive the fronts and sub or a 4 channel for the fronts and rear or a big 2 channel?

curtis0432 05-14-2010 02:39 PM

well I was thinking like 2 sets of speakers and a 4 channel amp and wiring kit for 300-400 dollars.

6 1/2inch in the front, 6X9 in the back.
and a 4 channel amp.

Here is a deal on some great speakers for you. This will take you up out of the entry level speaker category that you are looking in. This is not a basic coax type of speaker but a separate woofer and a true tweeter (soft silk) and is a very good sounding speaker. They were normally around the $200 area, that is not what you will be paying though.....
