Speaker Help Fixable or Not?
 

Scored a pair of Sony Acoustics Speakers For my desktop. they Ratted @ 100RMS Each. it looked lke it was sitting for a while. took of the cover and slitly touched the outside diameter of the subs. it cracked on me on the softest touch anyone know if there is anyway to fix it? looked lke it was sitting for a very long time.

yes I'm 99% sure that' is definetly repairable!!! is there anyway though of getting even a close shot of it?

Surround repair
 

Depending on where you live, you can send it to a speaker specialists, like www.speakercity.ca in Vancouver, BC , or do a google/yahoo search for speaker re-surround (re-foam).
I would advise you not to use any types of glue/silicone, or other products to patch the surround. the problem is normal degradation of the foam, over time.
Avoid trying to re-surround the woofer by yourself, if you've never done it.
I would also recommend that both woofers be re-done.
Replacing the woofers with anything but original will change the overall sound of the entire speaker...for the better, or worse in many cases.

ended up ordering surrounds from http://www.speakerworks.net/kits.html looks lke a easy DIY.

So in an hour you went from not even knowing the name of the part to ordering yourself a DIY kit. Good for you - that should work... :retard:

Try "elmers gel glue". I use that to repair all my speakers. So far it's workign well on the 12"s I repaired. It's ugly, but it works (the gel stays flexable)

Many old speakers like that have rotten surrounds and replacing them is standard practice. I have seen many replacement surrounds in the shops in Missisauga by the stage west hotel near Dixie road. Real cheap, or search websites under speaker repair surround etc.
I agree that they will not be perfectly original, but you are trying to get them to work, not restoring the MonaLisa.
Like I said, this is very common practice with excellent results, I did a few pair myself and if you are a typical DIY you can probably do it too.

at worst, you'll f**k it up, and might have to buy replacement speaks. Hey, you might learn something new and you might have some fun...seems to be a dirty word around here sometimes. Just remember, no one on this board or any where else in the world knew anything before they tried it. If you can afford to screw it up, go for it.

I have to agree with dukk.. there is a good chance that the diy kit will provide surrounds that don't fit properly... and you may find thast its not as easy to do the repair as you might think.... best to send them into a shop that does recones, who can get a variety of different surrounds...
