Speaker protection from water

I was wondering what would be the best way to protect my speakers from any water that may leak in. Would a butter container cut in half do the trick?

pgmaniac 09-23-2007 03:28 PM

Just wondering, but why would you run amps in a wet/damp environment? Water + electronics = BADDD

AyZe 09-23-2007 03:59 PM

He didnt say amps he said speakers...... and yes ive had car where water get in the doors/trunk constantly. the butter container would work but if u cud find where its coming in and put maybe a piece of plastic would be better

You Need to be more specific -- i think you mean protect your speakers in you doors from any water that might leak in through bad window seals right???

jeffreyM 09-23-2007 04:21 PM

Yes that is what I meant, I should of clarified it more. I want to protect my speakers from any water that may leak through the window seal of the door. Just wondering what material would work best. I have a butter container cut in half with the back cut out as well. If I place this on the back of the speaker, would this provide sufficient protection? And will this affect sound quality in any way?

AyZe 09-23-2007 04:29 PM

if its bad enuff.Take like a thicker plastic sheet like they use for home insulation and make sort of a trough that diverts is away from the speaker and into the bottom of the door and make shure it can get out.or just get a new window seal lol

FusionMadsen 09-23-2007 04:44 PM

Hot glue your connections?

AyZe 09-23-2007 04:46 PM

he wants to make the water avoid the speaker in general not just the connections....

pgmaniac 09-23-2007 05:14 PM

I musta been out of it this morning when i said amp....hangovers suck

jeffreyM 09-23-2007 05:26 PM

Which part of the speaker exactly should I prevent water from coming in contact with. Is it just the basket or the magnet as well?

FusionMadsen 09-23-2007 05:58 PM

The coils/connections.

AyZe 09-23-2007 06:36 PM

Personnaly i wouldnt want water getting on any of it at all, but u dont "have" to protect all of it

jeffreyM 09-23-2007 07:44 PM

So would a container covering the top half of the speaker provide sufficient protection for the entire speaker?

AyZe 09-23-2007 08:08 PM

if the container is wider than the speaker yes it should

Wow, thats really ghetto.. OR.. you could just fix the problem and prevent your doors from rusting out in the future.. fix the window seal.

AGREED!!!

jeffreyM 09-23-2007 09:59 PM

I don't really know for sure that my door is letting water in, or if my speaker is actually getting wet. I just wanted to ensure that I don't damage my speakers by any means after there installed. I read several posts stating that almost all car doors allow water in, and the speakers should be protected from this by some means.

tonez735 09-23-2007 11:07 PM

what was protecting the factory speaker from getting wet? :dunno:

CanadianBronco 09-24-2007 12:15 AM

how about the XTC foam baffles?

Put them into the door through the speaker hole and trim the foam around the metal basket

(theres alot of sites that sells these.)

Tom.F.1 09-24-2007 12:19 AM

Canadian tire sells rubber speaker protectors. 6-1/2 or 6x9.

jeffreyM 09-24-2007 08:47 AM

So who here uses something like this to protect you speakers?

CanadianBronco 09-24-2007 09:50 AM

something like that would do the trick possibly http://www.canadiantire.ca/browse/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=84552444188 9603&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=1408474396672459&bmUID= 1190648959286
Cut out the bottom and maybe even bottom side, or it's gonna sound like crap

Prolifik 09-24-2007 10:59 AM

jeffreyM 09-24-2007 11:25 AM

Not necessarily anything wrong with the seals. I notice that on most cars now if you roll down a wet window it will come up in the same condition. The seals don't seem to squeegee anymore like they used to on older cars :dunno:

CanadianBronco 09-24-2007 03:32 PM
