speaker wire
 

so im getting a new amp for my midrange speakers and i figgured i may as well upgrade from stock speaker wire lol. from what i can see most of the speeker wire is out of my price range. do u guy think i would be better off saving up for good wire caus 70$ for 50 feet seems a bit unreasonable to me. whats a good guage wire for speakers that r rated to about 80 watts rms?

What guage of wire is this for? There is generally no need for any larger than a 14 or 16 gauge wire to do pretty much all door speakers. Yes copper prices have gone through the roof, it goes up almost by the week but lets make sure that you are looking at the correct guage wire for the application.

Rob, I've been trying to contact you , but I guess you anwser here more lol.. I was going to ask the same question, what gauge wire would be suitable for 110 rms to the front comps, I have 12g going to the front of the car, but i'm looking for which gauge from the crossovers to the midrange and tweet :)

14 - 16 gauge is all that you are going to require. You are not passing massive amounts of current to the rather small door speakers.

so what your saying is i should be more interested in guage of wire not quality as long as i stick with a reputable brand?

If you think you can hear the difference in wires......you have the best ears on the planet. Provided the wire is the guage it claims, it has a good strand count (makes it flexible and easy to run), it will do the job just fine.

alright thanks, one more thing, does the same apply for rca cables? a buddy of mine recomended monster rca cables, he said he noticed a difference with his subs.

I'm sure they are probably better in the littlest difference, but I think your friend thinks he noticed a difference because of the steap price he paid :)

I guess like mr2nr has said, if you can tell the diff you've got some really good ears.

im re-wiring with 16 gauge since im going to be running around 60 wrms per channel....ive seen lots of 100 ft rolls of good 16 gauge speker wire for around $40....

however i use 12 gauge for my subs since theres around 200 wrms running though each wire.... and if your planning on actully running 80 wrms then id use 14 gauge although 16 will also work and you probably woudlent notice a difference..:dunno: also i found running wires to speakers is a pain in the ass as is and adding thicker wires would only make it harder to run:sly:
