speakers and subs with 1 amp?
Hello,
I have a little 2 channel Kenwood 300W max amp that powers two 10" subs, one on each channel. I hooked up 2 pioneer 6x9's on the same channels as the subs (each channel powers 1 speaker and 1 sub) and now the 6x9's are overpowered when the volume is high enough that the subs go to work. How can I amp the 6x9's and subs and not have so much power going to the 6x9's? Or can this not be done with the equipment i have? Thanks! |
I think its time for another amp...
Ghetto rigging never ends well. |
A "channel" normally refers to a driver (speaker), you have two channels powering 4 speakers.
I'm not going to do the math for you. |
It can be done, but you really should not. My suggestion is to use the kenwood amp for the 6x9's and get a mono sub amp for the subs.

What you are doing will not sound good and will end with the early failure of an amp or more likely the 6x9 speakers. My recommendation would be to plan out the system you want and then get it as you can afford it, an amp for your woofers, and say 2 speakers in front and some in back (these could be your 6x9) on a 4 channel amp.
Having a pro install it would be a good idea if you can afford it, but there are MANY self taught installers on CCA (ask questions so you can avoid expensive mistakes) But I would highly recommend you stop doing what you are currently doing. |

If the head unit has an amp, run the 6x9's off the HU and the subs from the amp.

Nice to hear some pointless criticism from some of the other members though. |
Toss the 6x9s because they suck. Isn't there an impendence difference powering different speakers?
That's not that bad... my friend has a 300W max 2-channel powering 2 different 10's in different sized bandpass boxes (one slot, one aero), it distorts major. |
