Specs to look for for new system

i am wanting to put in a complete new system in my 97 4r sunfire, was wondering what kind of specs in a subwoofer/amp i should be looking for when shopping around..

from what i understand i need a mono subwoofer amp to power the subwoofer but what is a good rms amount to look for? sealed/ported enclosure?

i want this to kick just the right amount, price is hopefully under 200-225$ for amp enclosure and sub. unreasonable?

i was taking a peak at used stuff on the forums... pm me if you have something in mind

200-225 is prety unresonable if you want something that will last more then two weeks... expect about 500 to get bass wired up and in the car and thats for lower end stuff brand new, going used can save you some cash.

whats just the right amount of kick? i cant see strait and as far as im concerned i need 2000 MORE watts... so you'll have to be a little more specific on that one, like what do you listen to, and what are you honestly wanting this system to do? what are you looking for front to back? you have to be honest with these kind of things or you'll end up spending alot of money on crap that wont work for you and we dont want that! so take some time think of what you listen to the most and what you want from a system, and no we dont want you to tell us you want your bass to be heard from 4 blocks away.... although we can do that for you... its called acid dipped body panels :)

so sub, enclosure, and amp (Phoenix gold xenon X10d4 subwoofer and Alpine MRP-M650 amp) for $110 as seen here wouldn't last more that 2 weeks or wouldn't be very good?

i am not looking to win any awards i am simply looking for something that will give me bump in the trunk without breaking the bank...

no the stuff for sale here is give or take... depends on who you buy from more then anything.... look at there i trader number... the higher that is the more they've done sales wise on the site also if its someone with a decent number of posts they probably arent going to sell you junk.... im just saying to walk into a store and leave with bass your looking at around 500 to get started :) if you can get that for that price by all means do it!

ohh i see what you mean yah i called bestbuy today just to get a feel for prices and they said 400 starting plus install so i can see what you mean...

is a sub with 200w rms going to make a noticeable difference in overall sound? or should i be thinking 450-500+?

Jo-Psyko 03-06-2008 11:32 PM

200rms compared to nothing will be a noticeable difference, if you want good solid bass get into the 500 range, especially because you are dealing with a trunk car... so your gonna need more then a guy in a hatchback.
