splitting rear rca's

probably a dumb question but here goes anyway.
Would splitting the rear channel rca's from the deck into 4 (2 left & 2 right) hurt the output in the end?

1/2 the signal.........

works fine, though you may have to turn up your amp's gain. Everyone used to do that back in the 80's with no problem...even with the low output (2 volt) rca's back then. Try it, if you don't like it, get a processor.

in the vast majority of cases its no problem...... at worst you will get slightly less clean voltage from the preouts.....

ok thanks guys I didn't think that it would be a problem but it never hurts to ask.

Ohhhhhh.... here I thought he meant that splitting the RCA's might half the voltage of the source seeing how it's going from two channels to four.

Haunz 10-04-2006 02:57 PM

^ not the case since any HU should be able to provide 2x the current without voltage sag

it really depends on the output impedance of the deck and input impedance of the amps.... but two - four amps off a single preout has never been a problem in my experience...
