opera? classical?
for testing purposes, of course, but the different instruments offer a wide range of music notes and tones. some of the newly produced ones have full surrond sound and they can sound pretty awesome on a eq'd system.

ayreon - the human equation
anthrax - we've come for you all

My reference 'hard' disc is Pork Soda by Primus.
That is a good disk, full frequency spectrum, dynamic, fun and witty music, and the Claypool bass

Laurie Anderson - super album for dynamics, frequency range, sonic textures, imaging is very good too

For those of you who enjoy some good jazz...I stumbled across this fairly new band called "The Bad Plus". These guys are awesome and the sound quality is fantastic. The drummer has been called the Keith Moon of the jazz world. Check it out.
The disc I picked up is titled "These are the Vistas".
