Square root of total RMS?
 
Im trying to figure out what to set my gains to and i read i just take my total RMS and find the the square root of it. and set my gains to that number, is this correct? thanx you in advance to those who post......:smilie_da:smilie_da

I will try to explain this as simply as possible.

FORGET WHAT U WERE TOLD PREVIOUSLY!

the gain on your amp is like a scale that needs to be adjusted to your decks output. you want it to be balanced.

ok

step 1. figure out the ouput voltage of your deck, it will range anywhere from 0.5 to 8 volts

step 2. turn the gain dial on the amp to aproximately that voltage setting

step 3. enjoy. remember only turn up the volume on your deck till it begins to distort, then turn it back one or two notches till the sound is clean again.

totally correct. say if your RMS is like 3000, the square root is 54.772255750516614 so you just set your gain to that. reallyl simple, this is how i do it.



really tho, whoever told you that didnt have a clue. the correct way is what MTA said ^^^
