ImageShack® - Online Photo and Video Hosting ... What the flying ? It doesn't translate very well in a picture but this thing is like gold plated compressed sand/rock filler ... What is this garbage? Snapped it off in my battery not that it was particularly difficult to remove what with it not actually being a real bolt.. Where can I get a quality version of this? Edit: ION ? Doesn't quite have the same punch of the original term used |
Hm. They must be sintering them rather than machining them from bar stock.
I've never noticed any of these to be different from any others, quality wise. I suspect they all come out of one bin somewhere and just get different brand labels. Your options would be to try a different brand - maybe it will have been made different, or make one yourself using a long bolt and cut off the head, making it a stud, or pay a machinist to make you one all custom like. |
Actually, the Streetwires piece looks like it may actually be machined from bar stock. Could try that one:

I tried one similar to this and I snapped the piggy-back bolt off instead... :/ Can't win. I currently have one of the Stinger ones and one similar to those installed until I can find a set that can handle more than putting them more than a half turn over finger tight.
I'll look in to the Streetwires ones though.. Not sure why anything that would be installed on a car isn't just a standard minimum of grade 5 steel.. would resolve a whole lot of stupid like this from ever happening.. I'm sure most anyone would pay the extra few cents per bolt, terminal or whatever it may be. Blargh |
Back when these actually were made from brass bar stock they retailed for about $25 each. Now they are like $5 so there went the quality I guess.
Having said that, I have never stripped or snapped one of these, ever. :dunno: |
Clearly I'm stronger than I think.. The circumstances in which these are breaking are kind of ridiculous, in my opinion anyways.. It's only a battery terminal BUT on the same token I don't want it wiggling loose so a full turn over finger tight didn't seem like much to ask but nope, wasn't having any of it. Got maybe a very gently applied half turn o_O

If you are worried about the screw moving just get some thread lock and put a few drops on it, then just finger tighten and it will not shake loose anymore.

Check out the wirez Btsps-s Solid brass with nickel finish, never had one snap
