Sub / Amp Choices *Newbie*

Alright so im new to the whole car audio world and have a couple questions.

As of right now I have a Sony Xplod Deck 50wx4 powering two JBL 6x9's in boxes and two, Alpine Door Speakers. The system sounds quite good until you hear bass out of it at a decent volume. So I am in the market for a new sub / amp.

I have a 2005 Ford Ranger Single cab truck so im tight on room. my friends have assured me I need a shallow mount sub which I understand but im lost when it comes to amps. I dont want anything that is going to pound and blow my truck appart just somthing to fill the bass sounds in and at the same time be loud if I wanted it to be.

I am going to stick with a 10" woofer and I have really only one limitation which is I must buy everything either used for a good price or from futureshop as one of my friends who works there can get me a deal on some stuff.

Here is the sub I was looking at, Now it comes in 2ohm or 4ohm which do I want and why? Is there any other sub you would sujest over this one from FS I have 7inches of depth behind my seats.

Here is a link to the amps, I am only going to be powering the sub off the amp so I dont think im in need of a multi channel amp or am I ?

Im not sure what amp to to get and I dont quite understand the 2ohm and 4ohm power etc, if someone could explain this too me as well.

Also I wanna try to keep the price as low as possible so not higher than about 250.00$ full price for the amp and 200.00$ for the sub full price. Thanks

sooooo your links bring you up to a nothing and a whole page of amps which ones were you looking just say the names. for one shallow mount ten the amp wouldn't have to be very big the alpine 500m is over kill could look for a 350m or something i'm partial to alpine...there's one small infinity amp on there that would work and both small mtx amps would work fine id go with the 3001 or the 500m or smaller one if you can find it somewhere else the 350m is old stock or used and 450m is the new model for it, i have a 500m and love it but am running two 12's

To get a sub into your truck properly, you are going to make one interesting sub box.... most generic ones are not going to fit all too well at all. If you don't plan on making one or can't make one, consider the MTX Thunderform for your truck. Here is a link to it.

Thunderform Series RMP101 | Ford - Ranger Regular Cab 1998-2008 | MTX Audio

This is going to be outside of your budget but it is a perfect fit, a match cosmetically and sounds quite good. It is not going to blast you right out of the cab by any means.

Failing this, I have the Pioneer 10" shallow mount sub on sale right now and can match it up to either a 2 or 4 channel amp for you. Ideally if you are not after crushing amounts of bass, go to the 4 channel and amplify the front speakers at the same time. This will afford you some protection to the front speakers from damaging bottom end frequencies and of course will give you more volume potential without the sub being overwhelming.

the thunderform box's only come loaded with a mtx sub too you can't get them empty not sure if that's something your wondoring. I know for my truck it was like 600 bucks for a dual 12 thunderform box under the back seat. I'm sure for yours being a single and smaller it will be alot less...

Thanks for the replys,

The sub I was looking at was the Alpine SWS-1043D 10" 4Ohm they also make a 2ohm version, whats the difference?

For some reason I cant post up links because I havent had 5 posts yet haha :P

And about the sub box, I will be able to make something !

Also I think im going to go with the MTX 3001 amp with the alpine SWS-1043D sub any opinions on this ? also should I go with the 2ohm or 4ohm sub?

on the amp it puts out 300w at 2 ohms and 150w at 4ohms? whats the deallll ?

Can anyone please tell me what the difference between the 2ohm and 4ohm sub and which one I should choose and why?

Also what do you think of my budget minded choices? Remember I basically have to purchase this from future shop.

Any help much appreciated,

thanks!

Why do you have to purchase it from Future Shop? If you are going to a mono amp that makes it's maximum output at 2 ohms, you want a sub that will match to it. You want a sub that is either a svc 2 ohm or dvc 4 ohm, the latter being far more common.
