sub/amp combo

Total NOOB here with a question. First of all i'm redoing my system and looking to add a sub just to fill out the low end. I don't need anything super loud and thumping, so i've decided on just a single 10" sub.

Now my question is. One sub that i would like to get is the Pioneer Champion series TS-W258. The local 'big box' store only carries the 4ohm version. However they have it on sale right now for basically $20, which is an awesome deal, as it retails for around $150. The catch is they have paired it with the MTX jackhammer JH202. Now i don't know much about amp/sub combos, but.. To me this seems like a horrible pairing. the jh202 is a 2channel amp that only puts out 50watts RMS x2 at 4ohms, and it can't be bridged to run at 2ohms, making the whole DVC thing pointless. Right?
With the sub being a DVC 4ohm sub, how can it best be paired with this sub?
Any comments or suggestions? Is it worth the $250 bucks to get this combo?
I would appreciate any comments or suggestions from the knowlegeable members on this site.
Thanks

I would not suggest getting that sub/amp combo.

MR2NR here on the forums runs a shop out in BC and can deffinatly hook you up with what you need. Hopefully he chimes in

the W258 needs a tiny box to work well. like .5cu.ft for the 10 or power handling drops off really fast. That sub/amp combo would play, but I'm sure you'd enjy a bit more power to the sub.

for $250 it's an extremely tough price to beat. But you get what you pay for. It's only on sale because it's overstock!!.

I'd raise the budget a little more and spend some time looking for what you really want. It's cheaper to get it right the first time, than to be dissapointed over and over again trying to save a few $$.

Indeed it is a horrible pairing. I have the 12" Pioneer Premiere sub on sale right now, available in dual 2 ohm or dual 4 ohm. I have a couple amps in mind depending on your budget. I should be able to hit a amp / sub combo around the $300 mark for you.

Thanks for the reply.
As far as the enclosure goes for that sub, i was unaware that it needed to be so small. i was thinking about putting it in a vented box, cause (to me) they sounded way better than anything i've heard comming out of a single 10" sealed enclosure. Would this sub not sound better in a ported box?

Mr2nr, thanks for the reply. As far as amps go, what were you thinking? would something like the mtx tc3001 be enough? or maybe the mtx jh300 or pioneer GM-D7400M would be best?

Are you going to go with one sub or two?

Just one sub.
