I should have stated this before, I just never thought of it, but my biggest problem is that I don't know enough about Car audio in general to knwo what's good and what isn't. For example, Smartass has a blaupunkt amp, sub, and two 6 1/2" speakers for 300 bucks. I have no idea how good blaupunkt equipment is. I'd like to know what brands/series to look for.
Thanks again for your help. Whenever i post a question here you guys always seem interested in helping.

blau stuff is alright. back in the 80`s i had a blau manhattan deck and a little 80watt eq booster. the tape deck carriage jammed up after a year (which was common with those decks).

ebay has alot of great deals but as rob mentioned good luck with the warranty.

You're right, but I get a 90 day warranty from the Ebay seller so... It's not that bad. The sub is costing me 64.99$ so If it breaks it's not the end of the world...

Considering that you will pay that much again for shipping to the seller and back, it doesn't seem like that great of an investment if you ask me. And if the seller is not authorized, he can politely tell you whatever you want to hear........question is, do you believe the seller or not, big gamble to take and the choice is yours.

And you need to factor in all the other additional charges to the price of that sub, shipping (not cheap), customs charges, US - CDN $ conversion, GST and that sub is going to be higher, much higher than the $64.99 you are hoping it to be.

MR2NR makes a very good point. Nothing off ebay ends up being as cheap as you'd like. I once bought a watch for $7CDN off ebay. By the time I got it I'd spent $40.

Buy locally. And hit some pawn shops too.

Again you guys are right, but the sub is being shipped along the amp so I am saving on combined shipping at least. But hey, this is my first foray into the audio scene, and we learn by our mistakes don't we? The sub above the Eclipse SW6000 (the SW7000) is 151$ on Ebay the price difference was too big IMO to justify the performance increase... but if I went into a local shop, the SW6000 would have cost me that much if not more.

What are some good brands to look for in or slightly above my price range?
Thanks.

thats a rather BOLD statement. i bought a drill and two amps on ebay and even after shipping, taxes, and duty i saved 30-40% on all the items.
ebay has its draw backs perhaps with warranty issues, but for someone like myself that is fed up with paying that retailer markup, its another fresh alternative.

we as consumers need more options in OUR purchasing, but with everthing including ebay its always buyer beware.

I never said that you don't save money using ebay (ebay wouldn't have survived if there weren't advantages). I just said that the nice low price you see on someone's auction page isn't normally what you'll end up paying. By the time you're done with shipping, taxes, and duty, you'll still end up paying a good chunk more than that original sale price - which doesn't mean that you're not still savind money over hitting one of the local shops.
