Sub + amp recommendation

Hey guys,
I was on here a few months ago asking for some speaker recommendations after getting rid of my sub and amp. I ended up getting some alpine type-r speakers which made a night and day improvement over the sound quality over the stock factory speakers I was using before that. Unfortunately, even though the speakers sound really good, I really miss my sub and the awesome bass I used to have.
So, now I need to get a new amp as well as a sub. I used to have an alpine pdx1.600 amp and an older 12 inch JL sub. I'm now thinking of getting a 12 inch sub again in the range of 500-1000watt RMS as well as an amp to power it.
I would like to spend up to $250 or so for the sub, not including an enclosure, and up to about $500 for an amp.
I like to listen to hip hop, trance, dnb (such as deadmau5), and top 40 mostly. What kind of sub and amp would you guys recommend? I was looking at the new JL models but they're pretty expensive and out of my price range for the most part. I know that JL is generally considered to be a good brand but, just like any well known brand, I'm sure they also charge more because of their name. Are there any other subs that can compare to JL's performance but are cheaper?
Also, would I be able to run a 1000watt RMS amp without making any or major electrical modifications to my car (its a 2009 Cobalt)?

yes you should be able to with any major mods. just make sure your wiring is up to par and do your big 3. (you are on the edge however)

there is a user on here selling a Zed Kronos. take a look at that, its an amazing amp.
if you like your type r's, check out the subs. for the money they are pretty decent.

same amount of work really, instead of running your stereos power wire the length of the car you run the alt-batt wire.
one great thing about that amp i listed is the efficiency. alot less power demand to worry about.

How about DC Audio subs? Have any of you guys had experience with them?
DC Audio - Specifications

I'd be interested in the level 3, 12 inch subs and it looks like there's a vendor here in toronto that sells them for $255 at the moment.

i used a set of 10" dc's and i was honestly amazed at that time, i had never herd of them. and they are rated very conservativly(sp?).

type R's also work very very well n alot of diff set-up styles for the price of them.

If you plan on running in excess of 1000 RMS - looking into a decent battery would also be a good idea
