Sub not working :(
 

Yesterday I installed a Boston Acoustics G5 12 into my car, hooked up to a Kenwood KAC-9105D. The power and ground cables make a solid connection and the amp powers on. I made a short loop between the power and the remote line, with a switch to turn the amp on and off, since its just hooked up to the factory head unit. I intercepted the rear speakers signal on the left and right side and connected that to a line out converter, to make it RCA's. The kenwood has a signal level input, but it wasn't working connected that way, so I did it this way. Now that it is all hooked up, the amp gets power, but no sound comes out of the sub. I am pretty sure the sub is not blown, it moves in and out with ease when I push on it, it doesn't smell, and the fuses on it look to be in working order. I am wondering if anybody would be able to help me figure out what is wrong with the set up. I tried turning the gain all the way up, and the voice coil moves just a little bit, but not enough to really make any bass :/ I may have the rear speakers positive and negative mixed up, but I tried testing it with a volt meter and couldn't get it to work. Would having the positive and negative wires mixed up be causing the problem?

you can't use a volt meter to test polarity on a speaker, what year and make of vehicle is this equipment installed into? lets start there

Do you have another woofer/speaker you could test the amps output with? Or another amplifier (even a house amplifier) to check that the RCA convertor is giving a decent signal?

Are the voice coils wired correctly on the sub? It's a dual voice coil model if I'm not mistaken, perhaps one of the coils is out of phase?

I do have a house subwoofer, I took it out of the encosure and hooked it up and it did the same thing :/ although I don't have a house amplifier that I could hook the RCA thing up to. The sub is really neat it has something called sureset, and depending on how you put a fuse into the sub itself it is either wired at 2 or 8 ohm. So I don't think there anything wrong with the sub itself, it has to be the way the amp is set up I guess. Is there another way I could test the RCA converter that you know of?

easiest thing to do would be to just grab any speaker does not have to be a sub woofer just a speaker period and hook it up to the output of the amp and see if you have audio, if you don't then its a signal problem, get another high level adapter. On a 2008 Chev cobalt this is the wiring info :
Rear Right + : Dark Blue
Rear Right - : Light Blue

Leftr Rear + : Brown
Left Rear - : Yellow

Be sure the polarity is correct especially on the high level input end of things

shucks k, what kind of high level adapter do you suggest, any specific brand? Cause I'm assuming the signal has to be amplified then right? Would I need like a bass processer then, something like the Boss BG300, its pretty cheap :/

According to what Kenwood lists, this amp has high level inputs are you not using them? or are you using another style of adapter? you do not need any type of processor at all where exactly did you go to get your signal from the rear speakers? , I suggest going an inch away from the factory leads at the speaker if you did not do this

K I tested the amp and sub by hooking up RCA's from my ipod directly to the amp, and the sub works, so it is definitely the signal. I tried using the speaker level inputs on the back of the amp, but I got the same results as with a line out converter. I took the signal from I would say 5 or 6 inches away from where the wire is connected to the rear speaker.

I found something called a line driver, its supposed to boost the signal strength of a factory or aftermarket stereo preamp, do you think something like this might be necessary, or work? Rockford Fosgate RF-BLD
