Sub Selection
I've got some 10 inchers in my trunk right now that are 250 RMS at 2 ohms and a frequency of 50-400hz. Im shopping around because im looking for a different type of sound plus a bit of an upgrade in wattage. What i have now is good for its higher/tighter bass notes but it cant quite hit the lows. Id like not to lose the ability to get the higher stuff but i also want to be able to hit more of the lower notes. So what i think i am looking for is something 12" with a frequency lower than 30hz and be able to hit at least 400 hz on the high end. Here is what iv been looking at so far:
Alpine Type R - 600 RMS / 23-400 hz Kicker CVX122(CVX124) - 750 RMS / 18-500 hz Clarion PXW1252 - 500 RMS / 20-1500 (i dont know if i believe 1500, anyone else not buyin that figure?) Rockford Fosgate T1D412 (11T1D412) - 800 RMS / 29.4 - ?? (does anyone know this?) MTX T812-22 (T81222) - I had this sub in my truck when i was 16 and loved it but it just doesnt stand up to the stats of the others... Im thinking about using a bandpass box because i have a luxury car and getting the sound to go through the trunk is a bear. So my plan is to run custom made ports out behind the back seat of my car pointing at the glass. Should sound nice when im done. The point of the thread is to stir some conversation as to what i should get. Any insight, tips, or even other suggestions that i havent listed are welcome. My price range is on/around the subs that i have listed. |
Leaning towards the Alpines because i have always been a fan and they have a really nice 8" type R that i can throw in where my stock sub used to be and i can get the lower notes with the 12s and the higher ones with the 8"

What amp are you using?

Why would you cross subs over that high? (400Hz..?) I run dual tens and I prefer higher bass but I think the highest I've had them crossed over is about 80Hz.. I imagine crossing over so high while still going down to 30Hz or so would sound really muddy..
