sub surgery lol
3 Attachment(s)
so i had 3 12" kicker compVRs years ago and i 1 blew.....i thought! lol it stopped working so i chucked it in my room and tossed my other sub in the car(only had 2 outta 3 subs in my car)
so im moving this thursday and came across the sub and i tossed my digital volt meter on it and got 2ohms on 1 coil and nothing on the other one so i cut a section of the cone off and soldiered a wire to 1 of the tinsel leads Attachment 24350 then drilled a hole so i could run the wire to the "outside" Attachment 24351 then i put the part of teh cone back on, u can barely tell it was cut off :P lol Attachment 24352 gonna wire it down ot 1 ohm and toss it in a 3.5 cubic foot box tuned to 38htz and feed it 1000 RMS and see what happens lol its only meant to handle 400 RMS BTW, and im pissed i sold my other 2 CVRs as i could of had all 3 wired together :( anything i do wrong or could of done better? im guessing i could of tried to attach the tinsel lead underneath the cap but i was in a rush and dont really care for this sub lol |
So what exactly did you accomplish with the single wire you soldered?
|
the one positive terminal wasnt connected behind the cone, so because of that wire im getting a 2ohm reading on the 2nd coil where b4 this i was getting nothing on my volt meter
|
Ah, I see. You may have been better off just re-soldering it like you mentioned, but hey... whatever works - it's better than a useless coil.
|
ya i guess it would of been cleaner but either way it gets teh job done:thumbsup: if it was something more expensive id probably take more time with it lol
i have a 15" RE SX sitting in my room that i might try to fix as both coils im getting no reading on my DVM:dunno: |
