subs

hey guys iam new here and have a question so i was wondering if you guys could help me out. i dont know who to ask and it seems like you guys know your stuff so i thought i would post this, I just sold my two ten inch kicker subs they were low end comp subs that were hocked up to a 400 watt alpine amp, I then purchased two 12 inch boston g1 subs and hoocked them up to the same amp. i did this thinking the bostons would be louder but they arent. so i was wondering if yoiu guys would know if they are suppose to be louder or if i got ripped off...... anyway thanks in advance

What kind of box were the 10s in?

What kind of box are the 12s in?

It is quite conveivable that your new woofers are not any louder, or at least do not sound any louder, than the old ones. You are still dealing with the same amount of power.

^^exactly, there are many other factors that determine loudness. Are the boxes the same design (sealed, ported, band pass etc...), the correct volume for the drivers to achieve the performance designed for (an spl tune is very different than an sq tune and there's lots in between). Even if all those are optimal, the realistic differnce in output may be a few dBs with the same power...barely noticeable in day to day listening. By the way those Kicker comps are pretty efficient subs, so it's possible that the output is very close to the BAs anyway. My suggestion if you want more output...ported box of sufficient volume, tuned to around 36hz-40hz for typical music, and an amp that delivers max rms power that the subs are rated for.

whats the wire configuration on the 12's? are they dual 4ohm, dual 2ohm. Where does your amp make most power? 1 ohm, 2 ohm, 4 ohm? these, plus the questions asked above will give us a indication as to why they're not as loud
