Which subs are better?

I am new to this and i bought a used system off a guy and put it in my truck. The subs i have are way too big so i sold them and i want a single 12 sub. Future shop came out with this deal for an exile 1000W 12" with a sealed box for $199 or i could buy a used alpine type R 12" for $100 and build a box myself. Which is the better deal and i also only have an 800W sony xplod amp. Should i upgrade this as well?
Thanks

I'd stick with the type R and build your own box to specs
100 bux for a sued type R isn't a great deal but still will sound better in a properly made box than the pre-fab

Well how long do you think the sub will last. Im afraid of buying the sub and it lasting 2 months. Im not sure how long subs are meant to last or how to tell how good of condition they are when buying them. Also what about the amp situation?
Thanks

subs do not have an expiry date or length of use on them.. If you know the person your buying it off (which it doesnt sound like you do ) you would know how he played it. but since you do not, its kind of a buy as is basis, but if he says it works, then it prob works !

No i dont know the guy. Found the sub on kijiji. What would be a reasonable price for that sub? I though $100 was maybe what it was worth used. I know that a box that is built to spec for the sub is important but what if the box that comes with the exile sub is built to spec? It would save me some time. I would like to know sub for sub which would sound better. I think i would prefer the alpine but if used is almost just as good as new i guess it doesnt matter. I still need some advice with the amp situation. I know the amp cant handle the max power of the sub but can i do any damage running that sub with that amp?
Thanks

$100 for a ABused sub is a great deal.... for the guy selling it....

go new with a warranty for the one speaker that is most prone to abuse.

Don't go with the FS deal. Negotiate with the guy with the Type R down to $80 or so, but only after you know the condition of the surround, or preferably buy new.

if your not against waiting a little bit I know that you can find the type R for around $100US online, I would prob pick it up in the states rather then ship here but I am pretty close to you and it is about $30 shipping. Not sure if I can post the sites here but you can pm me if interested.

The type r is worth 80 new, so used for 100 is not that great of a deal, they are good sub, as for the amp, you dont have to change it, if it works fine, just build a box to have more ouput for less power.

I'd love to know where to get a new one for that price. I need a third to add to my setup.
