subs+water???

function over form

I use my truck for a fair amount of 4wheeling, and frequently have water inside. but today I really got deep, had alot of water inside, soaking half my 5.25" clarion 3 ways (junk yard specials!!!). the still work great tho. just the cone is alittle soggy.

I was gona put some 8" MTX subs in the doors. so if I get water on the coil of the sub, am I screwed? any way that I could "seal" the back part of the sub so no water/mud gets into them?

Oooh, I smell rust in the voice coils. Sealing a sub up like that is going to spell it's doom as well since the cooling for most subs comes from the surrounding air sucked in from the back or sides of the magnets.

definitely. JL, Kicker, Infinity, JBL, etc make some.

Marine woofers aren't really meant to be immersed either. Mostly magnetically shielded and corrosion resistant materials but I still would avoid swamping them.

And Clarion.....Yes I agree they are not meant to get immersed but they probably stand more of a beating and soaking then a normal driver.

thanks guys. Think I will just make them easy to get at so when I go out I can just pull em.

Or maybe just seal up the doors.

Be interesting to try and figure out a pop-in and out speaker setup....unfortunately sealing the bottom of the door may lead to premature rust when the water that gets in around your window pools in the bottom of the door and has no way out....:dunno:

given the situation, I would think about putting the speakers in an enclosure and mounting them up high and out of danger...if possible??? You may be sacrificing sq, but hey some tunes are better than none.
