Subwoofer problem...
 

Hey all,

I have 4 Fusion Encounter 12" SVC Subs in a sealed box. I just built the box, so the last few days have been testing and reinforcing the box. I ran into a problem. When i get the volume over "15" on my deck, one of my subs "locks" and the cone doesn't move. I have to take it out, maneuver it in and out (forcefully I might add), and then put it back, but it always does it again... What could the problem be, and is it fixable? Also, the sub makes a grinding noise when you push in the cone, where as the other 4 don't. I've heard this noise on other subs worse, but it still concerns me... Any help would be greatly appreciating.

Also, I never put "dampening mat" in when I built it... I wasn't sure if it was required, but would it help me out?

voicecoil is unwinding, and its locking up.

That doesn't sound too good. Over excursion of the cone and it's hitting the top of the magnet. Sounds like it's voice coil is cooked :( if it feels scratchy when you push it in.

Is there anyway to replace the voicecoil? Im trying to avoid buying another sub...

Was this just wear and tear, or was this this just from being overdriven... The subs aren't old, not even a year old.

or just being drivin into distortion.

its heat that will kill your subwoofer. and distortion creates a ton of it.

the coil must be burnt and there's a short in the sub hence the problem

You over extended the subwoofer, maybe played too low a frequency and made them move to far and now the coils will be burnt and no good, I wouldnt continue to push them in a try again or you will be buying a new amp.
