Former installer turned rep = good.
Former salesman turned rep = a good hour to two hours of verbal diarrhea
I've only met an MTX and Kenwood rep. The MTX rep seemed well-informed and obviously very informed of MTX products, but when asked to compare to products of different brands, I kind of sensed this stubborn bias and he never really commented on them other than to say they were "inferior." The Kenwood rep spent most of his time with the salesmen, and from what I could see he was more concerned with inventory issues than anything else... And the fact that his demo car had been recently stolen from a hotel parking lot. I don't remember the names of either...

There's some really good stuff here. I'm actually kinda happy someone opened up this area as I think it's a good thing as a lot of things can be said that the average consumer doesn't need to know about.
I do believe a good manufacturer or distributor or rep or store owner or employee is one that is not only involved in the industry as a JOB, but also as an enthusiast and has respect for those around them. The only negative to that is all the EGO's carried around in this market. The PIMPIN' dudes with the attitudes. The clowns that think they are "owed" respect and boo-kays of flowers from everyone. Just because you "may" have accomplished something once in this industry doesn't mean that all of a sudden you go down in the ***** of history and are "owed" for infinity +1 by the rest of the world. Respect.......it's an on-going thing that has to be earned. This is a problem I see. People who's egos get the best of them after that one second of glory they may have accomplished................ then they become ball-breakers.

Yeah Al Sorenson's a good guy. Made me feel bad we never moved much of his product
And I know too many reps who are nice guys but freely admit they don't know car audio. Um - you get a commission why???

I dislike the reps that don't give my salespeople their time.
I dislike reps that can't/won't talk with me for a few minutes as a person instead of as an account.
I dislike reps that don't give credit where credit is due.
I REALLY dislike reps that don't return my phone call ina timely manner. I don't care as much if you blow off a salesperson with a dumb question, but I don't call you for business unless I need to.
I dislike reps that openly favour another account. If we show you and your line as much respect and support as we can, show us some of the same.
And on a note for the big box guy's:
How much do you dislike the rep for your area that dosen't give a **** about you or your store because "I don't get paid on your account, the national guy does"

Nah - I can't fault a guy for that. Your not his account. Also that means you compete with his accounts and thus if he helps you he is literally handing over his own money.
I mean the guy should still answer a specific question if asked but I would not expect any favours. In fact I would not call them in the first place - they're not my rep

^ Hm, none of my friends that are reps do but then that's only 4 or 5 guys that I know
And of course - a rep should always try to promote the product they represent in the best way but I know I certainly would not make a habit of calling on accounts that weren't mine.
