Sunfire install trouble

I went the DIY route for my 00 sunfire gt and decided to install a Panasonic 7" flipscreen for the HU, and I'm having trouble installing most stuff. I bought the harness ($140!), and a 1/0 gauge wiring kit. The front speakers (stock) won't get any signal, they won't even pop with the Panasonic hooked up (which is getting power). It also won't play DVD's, the movie only shows if you are in some settings page, and it's playing in the background. When you try to play a DVD all it says is "WARNING: ENJOY YOUR MUSIC". The HU is 50W x 4. I'm positive I hooked the wires up right, because it's color-to-color. I even tried bypassing the harness for the fronts and the speakers still didn't do anything, so I put the stock HU back in and they worked. I'm out of ideas, I've tried mute, volume, a bunch of settings etc, and nothing. Is there something I'm forgetting? Maybe I have to bypass something else? Does the parking brake have to be on LOL? I also can't find a place to run the 1/0 gauge battery wire through the firewall. It's a small ass car, and it's pissing me off! I was going to get it pro-installed but the nearest apt. was 2-3 weeks, so it's up to me :ohwell: .

If you connected the parking brake wire then yes the parking brake needs to be on.

Take all to a professional install shop and pay them to fix your mistakes

Thanks but Cambridge is way out of the way. I got the speakers to work - the prongs on the harness EHR sold me did NOT match up with the stock harness, so I found the speaker wires for front left/right (no rear fill) and bypassed it, everythings OK - except now the speakers are making a popping/ticking noise, so I call EHR and they said I have to bypass the STOCK COMPONENT AMP and I didn't know my car had a stock amp. To do that I unhooked the clip from the amp and I'm going to just cut some wires and bypass the amp right at the clip, but which ones are front left/right speakers? There are about 14 wires! Greeeeattt...And, the HU won't play DVDs still, when I go into the 'picture settings' screen with the color/brightness/tint etc settings, the DVD is playing in the background, and still only "warning: enjoy your music" from the main viewing screen. WTF? And I also found a place for the 1/0 battery wire, right above the brake pedal there was a rubber thing so I cut a hole through it and shoved the wire through, real easy. So, if 4 speaker wires run through a clip and let's say they are light/dark green and light/dark blue, when they go back into the clip, should they be the same colors? I SURE THINK SO! This is BS.

So I tried bypassing the stock component amp, it didn't work, so I took off the door panels and ran the fronts directly to the HU. It works great, but it still won't play DVD's. Tomorrow I have to drill holes in my box for the sub wires, hook up the amp, run the amp ground, and it should be golden, but, one thing that I was wondering was, why is there only one RCA sub-out from the HU, and two RCA hookups on my amp, what do I do there? Is this cord a 1-into-2 or what? Does it matter?

time is money
and beer is time
so get to know an installer and butter him up with beer if ya dont wan to pay an hourly rate next time around
I dont know an installer anywhere that wont bend over backwards for a guy that goes outta his way to bring him some beer for his time

i dont man in my sunfire the harness cost like $15 from canadian tire and i hooked it up and it worked no probelms......you must have had a better stereo package in your car than mine cuzz i i dont remember any problems bpassing the factory amp....

anyway to get the wiring thorugh the firewall i made a small hole in the big rubber boot around the stering coluum and put the wire though there then down under the bottom door trim (although this was with 4 gauge wirre and i dont know if you could hide 0 gauge under there)...just make sure you seal up the area around the wire after with some silicone....if your car is manual transmision make sure u run the wire up high after it comes though the hole....

i had mine all tied in nice and neat and then realized the clutch pedal arm almost touches the firewall and the wire was getting squished and preventing the clutch switch from depressing so i couldnet start the car:sly:
